Chappell Roan credits Nicki Minaj for helping make queer music mainstream

I think some overreacted to this. I'm neutral on Chappell, but noticed she's just says things sometimes to the point I can't really take this that seriously. Rihanna was a baffling choice, but I have to laugh at the Nicki inclusion when I remember her use of slurs, and her fit about being against commenting on the Pulse nightclub shooting (gay club shooting). The tunnel vision people have for Kanye in that they pretend it's 2012 with him, and still attribute every terrible personality trait of his to his mom passing away is similar to the 2012 vortex people live-in when talking about Nicki Minaj. People refuse to let either go.

Do you really think that the reason queer music is accepted to the extent it is now is because somebody like Lil Nas X showed up 6 years ago and alluded to riding men? Or is it possible that the straight perspective and sexual dialogue is what paved the way for queer music? It doesn't matter that Rihanna was a straight pov for sexuality because it still opened up a lot of conversation regarding sex in general. Queer music didn't just appear overnight and wasn't just immediately successful for no reason.

IMO gaga has been more pro gay than madonna ever way. 

 

No shade, I love Gaga, but let's not act like Gaga did more than Madonna or vice versa. Why can't they just both co-exist? I know everyone here likes to **** on Madonna but let's not downplay the incredibly stuff Madonna has done and still continues to do for the queer community. I'm not saying Gaga had it easy, but Madonna did it in a time when it was super taboo. She put queer people in her art, she constantly fought to destigmatize HIV and AIDS, she was constantly supporting the queer community. Madonna was very brave for the **** she did back in the day, and still continues for queer people.

Didn't Nicki admit to being embarrassed of her pop songs? 

But if they're talking about paving the way for being sexually explicit in songs in general, then okay.

Yeah that's what Chappell was talking about, she was taken out of context.
