The music industry is very ageist, especially to women. I don’t know many artists who were able to have comebacks like this other than Cher and Madonna back in the day. The fact that Gaga is able to have another big solo pop moment like this outside of her 20s officially puts her in the legendary category of Madonna and Cher.

It’s up to radio now, but I think they will have no choice but to play it with all this popularity.

I mean Beyonce too. She just got two solo number 1s, and Cuff It was a hit. And she’s in her 40’s

Mariah Carey gets left out of this conversation too often. She holds the record of most #1 hits. She dominated from the 90s-00s. Flopped from 00-05. Then had a massive comeback in 2005 with We Belong Together holding the record for most weeks at #1 until Old Town Road released in 2019. She did well from 2005-2010. Had one small hit in the early 2010’s before fading out due to lack of consistent releases and lack of promo but still being present with American Idol and acting roles. Experienced a third rebirth in her music career in 2019 with All I Want For Christmas looking to reclaim her record for most weeks at #1 from Old Town Road and A Bar Song.

Also Taylor is a few years younger than Gaga but her music career has been around for just as long.

Gaga’s achievement and status though is rare  in the industry and does elevate her to a high status within the industry. Abracadabra is specifically noteworthy because it returns to a signature style of Gaga’s that has yet to be replicated and is distinctively her own and makes it further established.

Yeah, it's basically Bey, Madonna, Cher, and Gaga who have really had big solo pop hits/big careers after the age of 35. I don't really include Adele because her music-while technically pop-is definitely more normie friendly than say Madonna.

Kylie is massive outside of the US, though, as is Shakira (tbf, Shakira is still a huge deal in the US even if she's not getting #1s on the chart).

If we look back 30 odd years, I'd include Tina Turner, too.

Frankly, it's depressing how ageist the industry is when one thinks about it.

This song is grand but can you imagine the wigs lost if there are even grander songs to come after the full release. Can’t wait. I am counting down like a friggin advent calendar to 3/7 (well 9pm PT 3/6).

There is still much more to come when it starts banging more on radio … many are still unaware.  I have had to send links to people who love her but are like new Gaga? You mean that Bruno song?

and life imitates art. Abra facing of on charts vs DWAS is like Gaga vs Mayhem in these videos lol.
