Not at all. The Mexican telenovela started the band RBD, and although they covered some music from other artists, including Kelly Clarkson, they never covered the songs from Rebelde Way. Other artists and bands have also covered their music in Spanish and other languages.

The Mexican remake sort of only borrowed elements from the original, but ultimately did it's own thing past the first season. Seasons 2-3, and the two series that came out after that are almost completely detached from the base script. It sort of served the purpose of elevating the band's fast growing fame more than anything else. They were pushing albums like crazy (including one in English, 3 in Portuguese, and several live ones), and went on a few world tours in only 5 years before they broke.

You've probably heard one of their songs before and didn't knew it was them. These are their two most popular ones, which also have English versions:

 

And the title song for the telenovela and the band:

Back in 2023 the band reunited for another tour around Latin America and the USA.

Fun fact: RedOne and Diane Warren are credited as writers of some of the songs from their English album. Both have worked with Gaga.
