to be clear, these folks are not downloading for full length, “traditional” length videos like you think. The reason is bc of Shorts, which on average are more full of braindead content than TikTok by a mile. attention spans will continue to rot lol, the “YouTube era” is not back the way you think, sadly

Well it was, until TikTok. Now it’s back to dying :messga:

TikTok was such a critical resource for news, activism, education, culture, skill trade, and so much more. FULL of genuine, real, quality content that mattered to the real world. If you think it was justified, or that the app was just full of time-wasting, vapid children—you are sorely mistaken

It was an incredible resource. It was not just dancing and memes like Instagram. It was so much more robust. They had an entire section solely dedicated to STEM videos. Activism discussions, political education, cultural discussions, etc. The stupid TikTok dances were years ago and it’s actually turned into a genuine source of power and information for people. It was quite literally the re-ignition of the internet and what it should be, and THAT is why they are scared of it

Tiktok is poisoning our creativity and ended the good old promotion of music with interviews, performances, for cringe videos

Do you think? That's interesting. It's funny how they never show the "smoking gun" to justify these cybersecurity/information concerns.

no more online communities anymore, no personality, AI shoved in your face, comments infested with bots... i think one of the main reasons i still use this forum is because it feels like a pocket of the internet where i know the people are real and a sense of community

THIS. I like watching video essays on YouTube and literally every single one that gets uploaded these days is an AI narrator reading an AI generated script over AI generated stock footage. It's dystopian is fcuk

100%. It’s been banned in china for a while now. They don’t want it either lol, because it unites people and is independent of the Musks and Zucks that keep Meta and X as the real smoke shows. They can control us there, and not TikTok. They can distract us there—TikTok breaks down that shroud of disorientation and shows the truth that those other apps never will. The government is afraid of the power WE will hold, not what China will

This is all exactly what was happening on TikTok, and they took it away from us bc it was so good at connecting and mobilizing us. They don’t want us to be that way any more and that’s why they allow Meta and X—they’re not real methods of communicating and connecting, while TikTok is

You should have tried TikTok! It’s full of professors, scientists, teachers, librarians, archivists, etc. and they love sharing information on topics from simple to very complex. They took it from us bc they want us to use inferior resources like YouTube
