According to the Los Angeles Times, her sister Kourtney Kardashian went over her water usage by 101,000 gallons, while her other sister Kim Kardashian exceeded 232,000 gallons. — Pop Crave (@PopCrave) January 12, 2025 1

The 2024/25 budget did call for $23million in cuts focused on equipment purchasing proposed by Mayor Bass. The negotiations on pay with the firefighters & the City Council both stopped that happening through signing off payrises & additional funds for firetrucks etc that she didn't want to give the LAFD. But the additional pay funding & equpiment funding both came from City Council & were after Mayor Bass's budget was enacted. And in the prior year, there had been city wide cuts due to budgetary crunches which hampered core functions of the department including "severly limited the department's capacity to prepare for, train for, and respond to large-scale emergencies". As well as limiting the ability to test department equipment & brush clearence inspections. The elimination of civilian mechanics has led to a backlog of 100 apparatuses being out of service in LA currently. And the rumour that the Mayor attempted to sack the Fire Chief mid-crisis for admitting these issues she had highlighted last month are part of the problem in controlling the fires is concerning for anyone rationally minded. So there are definitely issues that the Mayor needs to be held accountable for. Including being out of state when the fires broke out - despite the fact the city were preparing for potential fires due to the conditions and had in preparation filled up all of the cities water tanks ready for potential fires.
AnglerfishbraBENUS 5,638
i don’t understand the policing of people’s opinions towards Bass and Newsome. It’s quite obvious this has not been handled as well as it could have and as someone who lives in LA and had to temporarily evacuate - i guess unless you’re here you don’t truly understand the heaviness and devastation. Kardashian or not she is allowed to feel how she feels. It’s crazy out here. 1

I mean people are pointing out that California's got major long term systemic issues that make the wildfires so damaging and difficult. And Khloe Kardashian is contributing to those issues like using her wealth to avoid legal restrictions designed to protect others like the working class communities destroyed by the latest fires from having their lives destroyed by wild fires. So for her to come out attacking Bass & Newsome is hypocritical at best, part of a deliberate political propaganda push at it's worst. We absolutely should police the opinions of the wealthy. Because what they say publicly is designed to enrich themselves, not help us.

It can be both you realise? The severity of the winds, the recent off window between droughts (2018/2019/2023/2024) meaning vegetation grew on a faster scale as the only consistent drought was 2020-2022. And then finally the recent dry spell in the region that meant this vegetation was dry enough to burn quickly and easily. All of these are things effected by climate change. The fact that "no one was ready" is due to this being outside of the traditional wildfire season, the conditions being right to match those of wildfire season in this area are a result of climate change. The reservoir was being repaired at a period when the state doesn't expect high risk. Also the fire department were as ready as they could be. All usable water tanks within the city were filled in full in advance. There just wasn't enough for the severity of the fire faced (supply ran out on the 8th) and aerial fire apparatus weren't usable consistently during the peak of the winds for pilot safety. There's absolute human issues that potentially exacerbated the fires. But those human issues include rich idiots like the Kardashians who have been perfectly happy to ignore & flaunt every measure enacted to ensure water supply etc during droughts and suddenly only care about the reason why these measures exist when it affects them personally. Because they finally realised that they burn just as quick as poor people do.
