mightyriverz 1,795
I think it's important to acknowledge that Paris has recognized and apologized (somewhat) for things she said that were offensive, specially considering she herself endured abuse as a teenager. also, i think it's pretty fcked up to bring a quote from 2001 to judge her as she is the same person from 24 years ago. i'm 25 and I've gone through so much changes during this time period, and I see that she currently has turned into a very important advocate for mental health and human rights.

Economy 47,741
Has she changed at all? I reluctantly admit I used to find black people unattractive up until my teens and I realize how racist it sounds now. But 20 years ago the world was less woke and some of us were a bit behind especially if our friends and family influenced us that way I used to think that because I didnt hate black people and had black friends I automatically wasnt racist. I only started learning about more subtle beneath the surface racism in like 2010 to 2012 because before that I thought of racism as slavery days, calling them the N-WORD and not wanting to be their friends because thats the racism we learned at school. It was ignorance to think thats all racism was but it certainly wasnt intentional Just saying, 20 years is a bit long to judge by todays standards, ppl can learn and realize what they thought 2 decades ago is not it. That said I realize Paris is a pretty sh*tty person and maybe she didnt better herself in that regard either I dont know Edited January 11 by Economy

No people would still be watching Paris’s show 20 years in. Kim Kardashian, to me, always came off as Paris Hilton with the problematic qualities repaired. (Not to say Kim doesn’t have flaws, everyone does)

timdrake 603
Oh yeah I remember the video of her and her sister dancing, and she looks right into the camera and says "We look like (n-word with the hard R)" I was googling to link the video, but found this article instead: https://www.papermag.com/paris-hilton-racism#rebelltitem6. So at least she acknowledges it. I get it. Young drunk traumatized idiots say stupid things, especially during that 2000s era where shock value was seen as the highest form of comedy, so I can give her at least SOME grace. 1
Awrah999 4,084
It may be old but I’ve never seen this. That’s disgusting. Has she ever acknowledged this or apologized?

The “(somewhat)” though like has she really apologized because whether it was yesterday or 24 years ago if you don’t acknowledge and apologize genuinely it’s kind of worthless to say “X amount of time has passed…she’s different now.” Trauma isn’t an excuse for racism, homophobia, and bigotry in general, and while I’m glad she’s an advocate for good causes it’s important to reflect totally on your own actions and take full accountability for them, and that’s rare when most people just want to apologize to move on and have people forget rather than understand the true issues at hand. 1

I can't say the same thing about other "socialites" or "influencers". so I actually see her as someone who deserves her spot.
