This isn’t new but why would American media give a **** about our opinion? I just want to mention that this didn’t start like this. Mexican people were defending Selena when an established Mexican actor/comedian dragged her performance in an interview. This completely changed when the movie was leaked (it hasn’t premiered here yet). I did hear that people were defending Selena over Eugenio Derbez’s comments, but that gave me the impression that people were defending the movie, so seeing this shift all of a sudden (from my perspective) just felt super weird and sudden. 13 minutes ago, clownery said: Maybe you are not from Latin America, but this movie has been receiving backlash since September, Selena Gomez ridiculous accent went viral many times. Yeah, I’m not from Latin America, so I’m not familiar about whether or not he movie’s been receiving backlash there. I have heard complaints about Selena’s accent before though. Funny thing is that Selena's accent is one of the minor problems in the film. I saw it and it kinda worked, her acting on the other side She had some good scenes and she looked good. The songs are funny because sometimes they don't even make sense. But I cackled with the one Zoe sings when she's researching on gender affirming surgery. It was that bad, I couldn't believe it and it was in English. The other ones are just full of bad lyrics, I can't believe they are giving them awards for those awful songs 1
Anderson123 36,164
I haven't seen Emilia Pérez because it's not out in Mexico yet but actor Eugenio Derbez talked about Selena's acting and accent in a bad way which later made Selena respond that she did with what she was given, she's working to get better etc. Eugenio later apologized and said that every actor learns every day and that he shouldn't have said that. The thing about this mess is that Selena's scene started spreading around on social media and people here have made fun of it calling the movie trash and now with the mexican drug lord stereotype, etc. Like every post about the movie is getting laugh and angry reactions kind of like Joker 2. People were P!SSED last night that Zoe won over Margaret and then it got worse when it won Foreign Movie, Original Song AND Best Comedy/Musical Movie over Anora and The Substance, even Wicked. The backlash is seriously getting really bad here. Spoiler It has come to the point that if the Razzies were from Latin America I'm sure Emilia Pérez would sweep everything instead of Joker 2. Franch Toast 25,946
People have been comparing it to Green Book, which isn't a compliment. I've only seen clips, but it seems very cringeworthy. However, remember this is the Globes, which sometimes gives surprising results and is comprised of a tiny group of journalists. It's not always reflective of the Oscars. The Critics Choice Awards will be a better indicator. She/Her/Hers
clownery 4,219
also it makes me sad that Zoe Saldana is getting recognized now with this mess of a movie, she is such an amazing actress, it almost feels unfair.

Love her! but this is not the first time she received backlash for her own artistic choices and deciding to take part in misguided artistic endeavors remember her Nina Simone biopic 1

The fact that Squid Game season 2 was nominated before it was even RELEASED basically confirms that very theory. 2
River 106,888
it's the same thing in Hollywood, they believe that inclusivity means characters with the dumbest stereotypes that turns into some kind of soft racism. His fart felt like a kiss 1
