Thought we would've got the confirmation before now, was getting worried not to have heard it but now I can rest. Finally, we came through, this time without the debut week of all those additional versions to boot. Granted, it wasn't my favourite single of hers but it's still a solid song and after its continued success, deserves the top spot. So glad she now matches the same amount of #1's in the US as she does in my country, the UK, at last (different ones, but heyho). When tastes align with the US, it's a good sign of relevancy for a long time to come.

Who would've thought, when this was released and was remaining steady but not doing anything crazy for weeks on end and then coming so close a few weeks back only to be pipped to the post again, would we be here, 5 months later, celebrating its #1 status? What a start to 2025. This just shows you that slow and steady wins the race and longevity matters more than chart data. But let's not kid ourselves, a 6th #1 looks fantastically credible on an artist's list of achievements and helps massively towards their legend status. The fact they've been spaced out since 2011 is also a good sign of continued relevancy. How many female popstars can get #1 songs just under 16 years into their career? Any more and we're looking at undisputable legend at this point.

I don't think its completely sunk in yet. This is massive. This just shows adding it to LG7 was 100% the right choice and course-corrected an otherwise extremely shaky start. The album already has a #1 hit on it and we don't even know its tracklist, artwork or title yet so this will hopefully be a sign of a much longer era to come. Here's to 2025, monsters, it's going to be a wild one!

Girl imagine having your role on this site being to stop arguments happening and moderate but instead you start arguments with members just because you don’t get your own way with Gaga’s career… ANYWAYS…

Congrats to our icon who’s still culturally and commercially relevant almost 20 years into her career, not many people have that to their credit. Congrats to LG7’s lead single finally going number 1 :billie: and having a chart run equal to (and about to pass) Just Dance. Longevity divas. LG7 debuting with 500k incoming.

I don't understand this negativity. LG7 hasn't been released yet and some of you are setting it up for failure. MAYBE IT WILL ALL COME TOGETHER AT THE END AND MAKE SENSE. DWAS was obviously added only recently to the album but maybe she can make it fit.

The duality/ double album theory can really make it work.

To be fair, it’s mainly one person being overly negative in a thread full of fans congratulating Gaga lol.

I don’t even know why they’re a mod on Gaga’s fansite tbh. :air:

Something good happens in Gaga's career and monsters start complaining again. What's new?

The fact that most of this thread is arguing about LG7—whether it's the lack of information we've received so far or the perceived "artistic insincerity" some of y'all think she has—is pathetic.

She can never really have good things happening in her career without a bunch of self-righteous or entitled fans demanding things from her career, can she? I have yet to see any good argument as to why DWAS being on LG7 is a bad decision. If you don't like the song, that's fine. That's completely subjective. But this whole "Gaga's lost her artistic integrity" type of rhetoric is bullsh*t. Anyways, y'all will come crawling back and praising her to the heavens when she announces LG7 in a couple of weeks.

She was so emotional discussing the fact DWAS reached a billion streams, and now she’s at the top of the chart; I bet she is over the moon. I am so incredibly happy for her and all of her hard work. What a great victory for talent! Bravo Gaga & Mars.

I'll always be a fan, but she lost me as a Monster and I don't know if that's really repairable

I think you're being overly dramatic TBH. She did release "Disease", a song nobody on planet earth gave a damn about minus her fanbase, with an artsy fartsy music video nobody cared for, minus her fans.

Your stance seems to be: "I want her to only be an experimental artist, and never play it safe", which is not what she's ever been as an artist. Since her debut, she kept a steady balance between mainstream appeal, and counter-culture, that's her brand.

She gives you retro, but mixed with radio pop, she gives you horror, but covered in glitter, she gives you country, but with safe ballads, etc, etc, etc. She's never, ever, turned a blind eye to the masses.

Even during ARTPOP, which is arguably her most experimental release, she was still actively trying to please the masses. She changed the lyrics of "I Wanna Be With U", to "Dope", because addiction can be relatable to anyone, but being devoted to your fans is not. She publicly praised an article saying she should remember to stay relatable, BECAUSE SHE AGREED WITH IT, and is most likely something that she was actively trying to do.

She is a mainstream artist, and has always been so. If she were to just make "Disease" type songs from now on, exclusively, then you can say farewell to the arena tours, and be happy with her being a nostalgia act, only remembered as the girl who wrote "Poker Face" in the late 00's.

In order to sustain her status, and budget, as a mainstream act, she needs to consider the masses, because that is actually the bulk of her audience, not this fan site. What she did last year was to release a Jazz album with 0 appeal for the general audience, or her fanbase, and an industrial single with no choreo. Quite audacious moves, given her place in the pop landscape.

However, you are STILL not satisfied, because she ALSO released a ~single~ ballad written by Bruno Mars, that is more traditional in terms of sound. How does "Die With A Smile" erase or neglect the fact that she released "Disease", a song that NONE of her contemporaries, nor the younger pop girls, would, or could, ever release? :laughga:. There is a difference between not wanting her to be mediocre, which is fine, and actively wanting her to flop, so that you can entertain the fantasy that she's an alternative act.

She's not, and has never been. This is alternative music:

And this is what Lady GaGa is known and beloved for:

She makes mainstream pop, with some edge, that's her brand. It's absolutely ok for you to dislike "Die With A Smile", I don't care about the song either. But to be UPSET about her actively pursuing mainstream success, when that's basically what she built her career towards, is crazy bestie :ladyhaha:

But you do you gurl, I love a good meltdown, and seeing a meltdown because she got a #1 hit is certainly a new experience, we love that, we love a fanbase with range :laughga:. I just think it's not that serious, lol.

It really isn't :ladyhaha:

Idk how to convey my exact thoughts tbh 'cause it's just been building for a few years now. Kinda reached capacity with her absence during the election and then finally blew up when DWAS made the album for shallow reasons.

But that's why parasocial stanning is toxic as hell :rip: I became personally invested in her artistry and it simply doesn't feel honest anymore which gets me up in my fefes.

This is a lady that helped me heal quite a bit from SA and drug abuse trauma, it's infuriating to look at her and not recognize her as the same person/artist but it is what it is. It's on me but in the same token, I'm allowed to feel how I feel and express it and y'all are allowed to tell me how stupid you think it is.

I won't deny it's unreasonable :billie: it's rooted in trauma bonding, of course it's unreasonable.

I'll still dance to the music. Especially if it's more tracks like Disease :whitney:
