Trump wants to annex Greenland, take Panama Canal

President-elect Trump floated taking ownership of Greenland as he named PayPal co-founder Ken Howery as his pick for U.S. ambassador to Denmark on Sunday.

The big picture: Trump said during his first administration that he was looking into the U.S. buying Greenland andcanceled a state trip to Denmark after Danish officials said the autonomous territory that's part of its kingdom was not for sale.

He made the comments after demanding earlier in the weekend that Panamanian authorities lower fees for U.S. ships to transit the Panama Canalor return its control to the United States.

Driving the news: "For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity," Trump said in a post to Truth Social on Howery.

"Ken will do a wonderful job in representing the interests of the United States."

Representatives for Trump did not immediately respond to Axios' request for further details on the president-elect's plans for Greenland.

The Panama Canal thing is Laura Loomers fault. Back in February she did a "journalism" stint there to prove that it's a "pathway for illegal immigrants". She then gave all this "info" to Trump during his campaign. Trump is trash as usual, and also as usual his supporters are trash too.

Anyway, I don't see what owning Greenland will do for the US. Three quarters of the place is covered "permanently" in ice, there's nothing really advantageous about owning it, and Denmark isn't gonna give it up willingly.

Something is brewing in the Arctic. I think countries are planning and scheming for when the ice melts. Lots of minerals and stuff under there. Canada just appointed a new ambassador to the arctic and is opening new consulats… definitely starting to defend its sovereignty up there. There is also the question of Russia and the arctic.

 I don’t think Trump is going to be able to get Greenland without a fight, but I’m actually not surprised at all the US would try to acquire more territory up there.
