Still think it's a huge shame on the people that support banning the app. It's a violation of first amendment rights plain and simple. It's an attempt to moderate media, not in an attempt to curb misinformation, but to curb information period. The people that hate it because it affects charts are actually insane, and need to get their priorities in order. And although I recognize that there might be some security concerns, the security is no better on any other part of the internet, American or Chinese owned. We're more concerned about a secret classified piece of evidence of spying that totally most certainly exists but can't be talked about than we areof election interference from foreign adversaries. Why didn't we ban Facebook when we found out about how it was used in the 2016 elections?

If they end up banning tiktok, please be careful and read the terms of the ban thoroughly before using a VPN to access it. 

Don't wanna end up on a list for something as simple as using a stupid social media outlet.

On a serious note, I'm honestly down for it, I'm tired of everyone asking if i have tiktok and sending me annoying links and everything on insta being in a video format, even if its just an image. If this is what it takes for parents to parent and not leave kids to their own devices online

TikTok is not a good information source and it has been scientifically proven that being raised on short form videos is actively harmful for developing brains. It destroys attention spans and decreases focus abilities.

Depends on what you consume. I get videos that are multiple minutes in length including world news, interviews, news clips, research developments, etc. along with other fun videos pertaining to pop culture, cooking, animals, hobbies. And that’s not my only source of information.

It’s like saying “let’s ban tv in general bc cocomelon is bad for kids.”

I get what you’re saying but that could go for any media. That should be up to parents to decide what their children and teens consume.
TikTok can be used responsibly…it’s not ONLY brain rotting videos, trends, and dances.

You also get a lot of misinformation

It's very much a double edged sword. I don't really care either way about the app itself being banned or not. If there's a legitimate security risk then fine, dump it. If not, fine keep it.

But I think people arguing whether or not TikTok is a net positive or net negative are kinda missing the point a bit.

It's just a tool, like anything else. One popular facet of social media where both good and bad information can spread to millions of people within hours.

Beyond TikTok, we need two things being taught to people, especially young people:

1) Moderation. Knowing when to put their phones down and stop blinding themselves with blue light and rapid consumption of entertainment, outrage bait, or whatever else they can find there.

2) Media literacy. Knowing how to objectively confirm sources and discern lies from truth or half truths and distortions from the full story as well as how to think critically about what they're seeing.

Until those two things are learned, social media will always have a net negative bias on society imo. And that's an issue that's far bigger than TikTok.
