Fair enough, I didn’t look at every state and was more speaking from a somewhat informed feeling.
I also don’t wanna fight whatsoever, just trying to center myself a little again and that there is still hope for Euros to pull through. Poland was and still is a great example and I do believe there is power that can be harvested in our representative democracies. We had a few state elections this year in Germany and the worst a right wing party was able to do were 32% (which is still devastating, but not 71). So at least we need to stay strong and don’t fall into despair convincing our selfs that „that’s just the way the cookie crumbles“

Gurl… I’m from Hungary :traumatica: that’s why I said it :brat:

Now Orbán will finally have his bestie in office… a beautiful friendship  :traumatica:

I don't even know what to say. If it's devastating for a foreigner then I can't imagine how my family, friends and you all in the US that believe in human rights over  selfish interests must feel. The effects of this election on a global scale is scary to even imagine. I feel so sorry for all of us.

but you forget the influence the US has on the world not just politically but financially too. literally currencies are traded against the dollar.

its not like trump has direct rule over you but trust me, if he makes a decision the world will feel it. especially on the ukraine/russia and Gaza situation

Oh absolutely, I definitely was hoping for a Harris win. Trump has immediate repercussions for what’s happening in Germany or more so for what’s not happening next. I don’t really have the vocabulary tho to explain our politics or situation tho 😅

still, we can vote, we can inform ourselves, we can make decisions 🤗

If anything this proves that just like every other western democracy, the left lacks of radicalism and its moderate strategy is just what's keeping the extreme right winning the working class' vote. Kamala did not have any ambitious plan for people to have faith in her project. There is a need for massive change felt by the population but the dems and european traditionnal left are unable to shift its discours to get out of its "establishment" image.

Did the Harris team really think all these celebrity endorsements would help?

I was thinking the same, this whole celebrity endorsment campaign argument is just not working anymore in 2024. People are sick of having rich privileged people telling them what to do.

I’m certain that if Biden stayed it would be an unprecedented landslide. Kamala’s campaign was awesome in many ways, Trump’s was horrible. The problem is, people are struggling all around the world with this fcked up system called capitalism, they will feel that things can change with extremists, they fall into false promises and fake populism. And besides that, there’s the ones that believe in the moral panic created by fake news, propelled by their own fears of what’s different from their reality.

Not only US lost big today, the world will feel this disastrous outcome for ages. Trump’s corruption got a green light, people know what he does and what he wants to do, this is gonna help financially and morally extremists in most countries. And I’m not even talking about what’s going to happen with climate change and health. We need to organize, fight, resist.

I dunno why y’all surprised. I could smell a Trump win from a mile away. I kept telling you guys that she bombed her media appearances, her debate against Trump was meh at best. You guys only saw what you wanted to see. Although Trump had awful moments and takes in his campaign, they were on brand for him. Harris on the other hand did not have the same conviction, even when the media gave her the chance to say what she’d do differently she was so unprepared for such a critical question. And you can argue with me all you want but I think it ultimately is gonna cost her. I think also Biden dropping out and her running instead felt like their campaign had much more work to do than Trumps. Kamala could have won with much better media training and more time to prepare imo.

Part of it sadly is.

But also low unemployment doesn't mean well paid work.

Record highs for the stock market doesn't mean it trickles down to the average person.

People felt the pinch from inflation as prices rose and outstripped wage growth for the most part. Obviously the price rises slowed/stopped but it stopping didn't mean suddenly everyone was doing alright again.

Yeah I just saw that since 2020 roughly 5 million Americans have had to have one full-time and one part-time job, saw a video this week of a full time teacher also having to working nights at a diner

Yet they elect a rich privileged criminal, backed by the richest privileged man literally paying them to get promotion on telling them what to do. This is hardly a problem in my view, it’s so much deeper than that.

HARRIS: Let me be very clear. I’m unequivocal and unwavering in my commitment to Israel’s defense and its ability to defend itself. And that’s not gonna change.

BASH: But no change in policy in terms of arms and so forth?

HARRIS: No. We have to get a deal done.

Those viral and much criticized answers came after her interviewer repeatedly stated that Biden's policies have been overwhelmingly ineffective.

We've been getting circular statements like that for months now. She says she's open to dialogue but she's also committed to continuing arming Israel for their "self-defense". As even CNN, shockingly, dared to admit, this is illegal, as Israel cannot invoke that right under international law.

I can't argue with you about the "if I had to choose" argument, that's to each his own. I don't think that's the right angle though. What I've mostly seen among voters is the ethical approach of not wanting to reward Kamala with a win, effectively saying "carry on killing thousands of civilians". Whether that's correct or not, again, I have no idea, but I don't think anything's wrong about saying it was shocking and reckless for Kamala to not even try to hint at a change in approach.

Thank you for being a voice of reason and putting things so rationally.

Still, the biggest irony in the results in my opinion is the fact that foreign policy ranked dead last among issues voters care about. So yes, she would have lost regardless of her position. However, this does put in perspective how ridiculous it was for the Kamala base/liberals/centrists to so VICIOUSLY and relentlessly go after the very very small amount of people who refused to cast a vote for someone currently funding genocide. They have been going on for a year now about how people should sacrifice their morals in order to avoid a Trump presidency, they have mocked and blamed and ridiculed "those darn progressives and leftists," and we now see that that would have made absolutely no difference; your country vehemently wants a fascist to rule and could not care less what happens in the territories whose destruction it pays for. Even now after these results I'm seeing people blame "the Left." It's downright laughable.

That’s literally not happening at all??

I hope this answers your question. Didn't mean "palestinians" as in the actual people, I meant those supporting the cause.

You're looking at land mass not population density.

Those big states have a fraction of the population that places like New York state or California have.

So they don't collectively have much electoral colleges? Also, why literally all the electoral colleges in a state entirely goes to one single party if it wins the majority of it, even the ones won by the opposition? I've seen this in US only :laughga:

Anyway, better luck next time
