If Phillips really wanted to be chaotic, he could've done so while still making a good movie...Otherwise, it's just a waste of everyone's time and money. And for what? Because you felt so self-important as to say "f*ck you" to the audience? Sometimes it's not all about you. 100%. Something like Twin Peaks: The Return is a brilliant way of both subverting expectations/saying “**** you” to nostalgia-based fan service while simultaneously creating something groundbreaking and incredible. Todd Phillip’s is a wannabe auteur and always has been 🤷♂️ Edited October 29 by Ladle Ghoulash

Shadow 6,355
A $200 million budget for a troll movie, though? 🖤“Thoughts are the shadows of our feelings -- always darker, emptier and simpler.” ― Friedrich Nietzsche
MOT 2,662
I would also like to hear the audio, but yeah, I think Tarantino is giving Phillips a round of applause here. He's saying that Phillips is saying 'You want Joker ? You think there's something good about Joker ? Ok then, have some of this'. Tarantino doesn't actually say bravo, but I think that's what he means. As for 'could Todd not have said f you and made a good movie at the same time', well, whether it's good or not is subjective. I happen to think it's good, but then I'm not a fan of Batman/Joker etc (see, I can't even describe it properly). But if by 'good' we mean successful, I think the basic concept of using your movie to say f you to the people who are the likely audience is going to make things somewhat .... challenging. Didymus 34,379
I mean... Are we sure that Todd and his team weren't secretly hoping the audience would be like "omg this is genius!". Subversion has been a trend for the last few years and the general audience def sometimes acts like they actually have a brain these days. I find it hard to believe he made all of those years of effort to intentionally flop.
Magic Mike 2,657
Someone with brains just praised commercial flop FAD <3 “I really, really liked it, really,” he said. “A lot. Like, tremendously, and I went to see it expecting to be impressed by the film-making but I thought it was going to be an arms-length, intellectual exercise that ultimately I wouldn’t think worked like a movie, but that I would appreciate it for what it is. And I’m just nihilistic enough to kind of enjoy a movie that doesn’t quite work as a movie or that’s like a big, giant mess to some degree. And I didn’t find it an intellectual exercise. I really got caught up into it.” Tarantino added that Joaquin Phoenix gave “one of the best performances I’ve ever seen in my life” and that the film offered the version of Natural Born Killers that he “would have dreamed of seeing”. Tarantino’s original script for the Oliver Stone-directed satire was drastically rewritten back in the 1990s. He also praised Phillips. “The Joker directed the movie,” he said. “The entire concept, even him spending the studio’s money – he’s spending it like the Joker would spend it, all right? … He’s saying **** you to all of them. He’s saying **** you to the movie audience. He’s saying **** you to Hollywood.” The Pulp Fiction auteur called it a “really funny” film and said that he “really liked the musical sequences”.
