Babes, there’s also no reason to escalate language yet again in effort to defend your fave (which is totally fine). Not every person on this site „hates“ Miss Smith, a lot of people, including me, used to stan her as well but just grew out of her music/persona for one reason or another and just don’t like her anymore. Not every sassy critique of a multi billionaire is hate, chill.

I’m completely chill? Maybe I misinterpreted what meant by using the word hate. I only meant spreading negative viewpoints and opinions to take away from what she’s accomplished in her career, regardless whether people think the variants are a money grab or collector’s item. I’m not here to argue with anyone or escalate anything. As I said in the last sentence she at least deserves a bit of respect for what she’s done.

I didn’t mean to upset anyone or seem like I was trying to add gasoline to a fire and I’m sorry you took it that way.

Wait, wasn't there a whole scandal about the dynamic pricing for tickets of her tour?  I swear that was the first time I'd heard of the concept of dynamic pricing for concert tickets.

For the Eras tour specifically, the US scandal that led to congressional hearings etc, came because of the post-face value fees.

It was part of a wider war on hidden fees from sites like Ticketmaster etc. So it was all about a face value $150 ticket then got hit with booking fees, processing fees etc and ending up at $250 for example.

I don't remember there being a dynamic price issue - just a lot of straight to resale tickets (which ticketmaster absolutely has a hand in) going for 10x face value

but the end result was worst because this gave scalpers the power to set high prices without any control.

People paid $5k for basic tickets and this shouldn't happen.

Cap resale for tickets at face value :) or promoters allow only refunds on tickets, with a 5% restock fee.

Cheapest seated ticket in the UK (excluding VIPS) was £58, most expensive was £194. GA standing was £110.

Chromatica London shows - GA Standing was £88, seats started at £51 and capped at £167 before VIP packages.

And from personal experience this year. The weekend before I saw Taylor (ticket was £85 face value), I'd paid £179 for GA standing at Green Day.

Idk about US/Can tickets. But the Eras tour was pretty similar to Gaga & tbh every tour these days in the UK.

Gaga cost $700 in the US for pit.

Seems to be a lot of unnecessary hate on TS on this site and I’ve never understood why.

variants of the same album are just that: the same. Her fans know this and have a choice which variant they want to purchase, whether it’s one or all.

tickets were not expensive to the eras tour. Front row floor VIP was $749. I bought tickets in the lower bowl with a perfect view for $150. The prices you’re seeing on resale sites are not the face value of those tickets.

The woman donated huge amounts of money to food banks in every city she visits, excessive bonuses for all her dancers, band, and those transporting and building the stage.

she has a genuine love for her fans and her art, and the stamina to perform 3.5 hour shows three times a week.

I get her songs aren’t for everyone and she’s a “capitalist queen” and people will have their own opinions I just don’t understand why she hasn’t at least earned people’s respect.

I just don't understand how you don't understand considering it's asked and explained every time a criticism comes up. Her variants are anti-consumer due to the nature of them. Chopping a complete album into 5 different exclusive pieces butchers the art and cheapens accomplishments. Yes today Taylor is selling a variant w/song A, a different one wsong B, etc and labels start to notice she can make money like that and do it to everyone. So now we have albums that would have been complete at 18 songs chopped into a 14 track album with another 4 variants released later, each with an exclusive track. And all the big acts start doing it, so how will we consumer all this media? Retain ownership over music? This is without getting into any of her drama.

Honestly I've said for years the simple answer to dynamic price bs and rip off ticket touts is making it illegal to sell above face value.

Viagogo, getmein etc would be dead within seconds.

1. TTPD was the first time she had done that in her career

2. anyone with a mind knows bootleg lyric videos will be on YouTube immediately making the point of pressuring people to buy a variant for 1 song irrelevant.

3. as you said, all of those songs immediately became available on streaming platforms 2 hours after release.

4. target exclusive tracks have been a thing forever, Gaga included, but I’ve never heard anyone be upset by those. Only because it’s Taylor Swift people were mad.

sorry but no, taylor took it to the extreme and you can't defend it

have a standard and one deluxe edition is fine, having so many editions with only one track difference is insane and scummy

very different to just a target edition

mother, what must i do?

It isn’t my job to defend her choices I’m just saying there are other ways to stream those four songs and it just isn’t a big deal to me like it is to others apparently. It has absolutely no effect on me because I bought a total of zero TTPD copies.

All I was saying is I don’t get why people get so bothered by it when there are other options to consume that music lol. Sorry you feel your time was wasted 🫶🏼

Very strong word for someone you don't even know personally. What has she done to you, or perhaps, your family? :partysick:

Ruthless capitalist strategies to repeatedly rip off the same groups of people who find themselves willing to pay for things out of feelings of loyalty and passion tend to bother people, it's a thing. Yes, we can all throw our hands up and say "you don't HAVE to buy them" but the reason they are sold is exactly because a lot of people can be manipulated into compulsively buying it anyway. Given Taylor's target audience, that is just ****ed up no matter how you slice it. We have never ever seen this level of shameless consumerism around a single pop star.

I thought it would be automatically censored. :lolly: Oopsies.

Very strongly dislike here for a multitude or reasons though.

Okay cool, but the prices were absurd to begin with, so... :haroon:
