MACATL 1,095
Not surprised. I only listened to it once. That was enough. Not sure who thought that was a great single, let alone first single.

As long as we’re not being disrespectful let everyone have their little meltdowns, anyway, stream disease no, it's annoying i miss when fans used to be actual fans rather than her biggest blockades mother, what must i do? tezbear91 744
I’m sure it will climb more once the MV, interviews and performances are out there. Let’s not stress about charts this era though. Over exposure can ruin a track sometimes. battle for your life.
JustJustan 703
Releasing the music video would have prevented this. It shouldn’t fall on Halloween weekend. It should rise.

The truth is this: Gaga is unlikely to smash with her own solo pop music nowadays. And that is FINE. She's nearly 40. Her signature style of pop (Disease) is not the 'it' sound right now. Gen Z (or whatever) are unlikely to ever seriously get behind Gaga as a solo pop artist. And why would they? Most younger listeners didn't back Madonna once Gaga/Britney came around. It's the cycle of pop culture - it's normal. It's life. Gaga is more than a legacy artist though. She still has a very large fanbase and has a lot of pop cultural relevance. She can have that without solo monster hits. She could even have that without the collabs that, yes, have certainly charted better than any of her solo material in the past ten years or so. She'd have that without charting high in any capacity. But again... who cares? Especially when the music is so good. Lady Gaga will ALWAYS be famous. She will always be able to tour; will always able to release albums. She's an icon. And, honestly, the same can be said for Katy Perry. The criticism of Katy's music is because it's bad music (to a lot of us), not because it doesn't chart well. There is no double standard here (from me anyway). If Katy released a fantastic song and it didn't perform well on the charts... so what? Her fans are happy. And let's not forget DWAS is one of the biggest songs of the year. So who really cares how Disease charts? It's one of her best songs, ever. Let's celebrate and focus on that. A badly charting lead single (if that's what this ends up being, which it might not be) is not going to impact Gaga's career if she doesn't want it to. Luv u. Is the song amazing ??? YES. The numbers shouldn’t change how we feel about it. also she’s barely lifted a finger to promote it and the video isn’t even out yet. Honestly music is just so enjoyable when what you actually pay attention to is the music. 1

Its not hard to share a picture of Disease on her IG stories or a tweet. Its not just the charts thats lacking because we saw how Harlequin was, its the lack of any activity or interaction or promo at all.

GH333 47
I think this is her strongest lead in a very long time. It’s only been out a few days, time will tell if it kicks off or not. I will be honest and say that it surprises me to see exciting promo (the images of her with black hair and grey nails etc) on news articles rather than her socials or on the single cover. I also think that releasing harlequin right before this was a misstep (Die With A Smile was fine). I’ve been excited to hear this song for a while now and the experience of seeing her release ‘LG 6.5’ actually stole some of the hype energy from the LG7 lead. Disease would have had more impact for me if she just came out and released it with strong promo out of nowhere. Edited October 27 by GH333

No one loves flop commercial performances. But then the song just isn't a hit material so... I’ll take that @ next time Religion is a product to sell. andy232000 9,870
I’m not obsessed with her chart success but I am obsessed with her strategy, since I majored in PR and will do a master in Music Business. The roll-out started out solid, but this numbers -at least to me- would tell me immediately that this current plan is not working. I understand withholding the music video and physical sales to allow the song show its true pull the first day. But now if they want a decent debut in the charts they need to start dropping stuff and interact more on social media. The song is pacing for a top 25 debut on the Hot 100, which is quite tragic for a lead. SL debuted at #5 and Perfect Illusion at #15. It was cute at first to withhold things. Now it is a necessity if they want ok numbers.

Just remember how smashing were Bad Romance, Poker Face, Telephone. Chromatica also had better options than Stupid Love and 911 but still her/her staff choices about First single didn't hit the right public. I am just glad we will get a new album in 4 months because from Joanne era that's been the best gagas experiences, the full albums. I have to disagree, some of you think Bad Romance was GP friendly because now looking back it was succesful. But there are so many other factors that play in, the reality is Gaga had a lot of hype behind her during that time just for her simple existance, she was new and she was exciting. Anything she would have released at that time would have done at least well. Do you really think, for example, that Sabrina’s PPP is really a nr. 1 song or is it obviously the curent hype behind her that pushed that song to the top? Not even Espresso, her real actual hit this year peaked at nr. 1 BUT the hype of that song generated hype for her which pushed PPP to nr. 1. There are so many other factors as to why a song ends up being succesful. We need to stop acting like Gaga’s earlier stuff was GP friendly, it was not, it was new and pushed the boundaries of pop music. Other stans are erasing her legacy as a cultural icon that changed the music scene as we speak, can we at least not do that too? I reread my reply and I feel like it comes across as harsh, and just wanted to let you know it’s not, I’m not coming for you, I’m just disagreeing.
