The first Joker had a $65M budget.

Even when you take out the $52M for Phillips, Phoenix, and Gaga, that’s still a differential between the two films’ budgets of $82M. Where did all that money go?

Still have no idea where the $200m went even with the more expensive LA location.

Do we think Gaga will have enough support from The Academy for an Oscar nomination? I know many people on here either like the movie or outright hate it and that's not what I'm asking. I'm curious to hear (well read) what other members on here thing could happen regarding award season and if we think she'll have enough presence to garner nominations for Supporting Actress.

No?

If they didn’t nominate her for HOG why this one? The consensus is her part didn’t shine and added little to the film, even if that is not her fault.

Other actors will deservedly take her spot.

She *might* get an Oscar nom, although I think its unlikely with how much JFAD has essentially **** the bed at the Box Office. But given the reviews are "Gaga is good but not featured or used well enough" I think its unlikely tbh

But ultimately the person getting Best Support Actress is going to be Julianne Moore for The Room Next Door. The buzz that had from Venice with the critics makes it look like a forgone conclusion tbh.

Unlike the first movie, which was divisive, the general consensus (outside this website) is that FAD is terrible, so no, I don't see her being nominated for Oscars at all.

And it's a shame, really, because had the movie been good and her character better utilized, she would've benefited from the HoG snub narrative to help her secure a nomination this time around.

The only mistake anyone made was blowing $200 million on this lol. It's a good movie for what it is. It could've been made way cheaper and been successful.

I completely agree. If anything, the real glitch was the first Joker making $1 billion, they shouldn't have blindly assumed the second one would necessarily have the same fate and throw that much money into its making.

As for the rest, I quite respect Phillips for sticking to his guns. Most of the time, big production companies tend to think they know better than the director, post-production meddling has ruined more than one project in the past. Here, it seems that creative decisions were left in the hands of the creatives, and that's a good thing. There's no denying Phillips made the film he wanted to make, and the fact people aren't showing up for it is another issue entirely - once again, this type of movie isn't made to satisfy big mainstream audiences, and the success of the first Joker is a sort of anomaly that they shouldn't have hoped to match 5 years later.

I've mentioned this before, but I'm quite sure the movie will be appreciated more in the years to come.

It's pretty safe to say the Oscars discussion died a week ago. At this point, I'm only hoping the Razzies won't be beating this dead horse.

Highly unlikley, and if it did, it will likely be for technical categories (costumes, set, etc)

Yeah the more reviews I see coming in, the only highlights people have are Joaquin and Gaga's performances working with, well we know the script that one reviewer said needed to be burned LOL. At minimum I can see Cinematography getting more praise but that's about it.
