I live in Fort Lauderdale and it’s been raining and flooding even prior to Helene. My aunt and uncle just evacuated here from Cedar Key, FL not even two weeks ago. Begged them to come here but instead they chose to drive south and more towards eye of storm and get a hotel room in Ocala.

like wut.

even my neighbors are booking hotels and doing major prep. Which they’re usually the one who always think I’m crazy for panicking. I’m not, I’m planning.

I’m a Hurricane Katrina survivor and the amount of dead bodies and devastation I saw at such a young age - I don’t play when it comes to these storms. No one should. But sometimes, people don’t know until it happens to them.

Praying for everyone

I’m watching this youtube livestream and the meteorologist said Ocala is not a safe place to be for the storm. The rainfall is going to be a big disaster.

Landfall is about 25 hours away so I hope they change their minds :ohno:

The last model I saw has this bitch sitting directly over my house as a category 3 and I'll be getting off light compared to the west side of the state :messga:

I fear the Tampa/Fort Myers area is gonna be washed out completely :messga:

@PartySick I'm near to where you are -pls tell, if I'm on the barrier island do u think I need to evacuate?

I would evacuate to the mainland at least tbh. Idk what area you're at exactly but we've had a few storms come through that weren't even necessarily severe (cat 1 or 2) that totally flooded out parts of Merritt Island and KSC making them almost inaccessible for days or weeks :rip:

This storm in particular is supposed to move and dump A LOT of water so flooding is a huge risk.

Lots of people think I'm a psycho or insensitive at least for my feelings towards these storms but honestly? All you can is prepare for them. No amount of stress or anxiety will make Milton turn around so I might as well indulge in how fascinating these storms are and how silly Florida culture is sometimes.

We all joke about "if you evacuate, take that Salt Life sticker off your truck!" but the people in this state never do feel this human until one of these storms is barreling towards us.

No MAGA hats, no "blue no matter who", no homophobia or christian fascism, just people who want to survive and help their community

And that's my justification for hurricane jokes :ladyhaha:
