The ending of JokerFAD that everybody missed (spoilers)

Big spoilers so please don't read if you don't want to be spoiled

I'm shocked to find that almost every single person who watched the movie seemed to miss the giant twist at the end. Did you catch it? Probably not because they paid it absolute dust and left it as a blurry, unfocussed shot in the background. It has me frustrated because noone seems to know the actual ending

The Joker isn't killed at the end. In the very last shot of the movie the Joker is CREATED

The guy who kills Arthur at the end, that wasn't a totally random moment. Throughout the film they kept focussing on him, how he was closely following the Joker and Arthur's case, he liked what the Joker symbolised. They showed him so much that I kept thinking "oh he's gonna pop up later on in some way." Well he did, he kills Arthur because he's disgusted in him for humanising himself and revoking the Joker persona. And then, the part everyone misses, while Arthur bleeds out he leans against the wall laughing while CUTTING HIS FACE ON EITHER SIDE. HE IS THE REAL JOKER FROM THE BATMAN UNIVERSE. So at the very moment we see that Arthur has denounced his Joker persona, he dies as a real human and the REAL Joker is born. Arthur created the Joker not in himself, but the real joker. An actual psychotic freak with a cut up face. Not a troubled human being, beaten down by society, anti-hero

And as a side note, when I watched the first Joker film a few weeks ago I was so excited by the twist that he was the one who killed Bruce Wayne's parents and created Batman. Great twist. But I remember thinking 'that timeline is a bit weird though. The Joker is already old? Wouldn't that make him in his like 60's in the Batman universe?". And also I don't think it was ever traditionally the story that Joker killed his parents. And then when we see the young guy become the Joker at the end of JFAD, and it's been 2 years since the first film, the timeline suddenly matched up perfectly and the story of who killed the parents. Idk I felt very satisfied with that because it cleared up like the only plothole I personally found in the first one lol

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Yes, most people missed it, but TBH, the scene is out of focus, and most of the audience was focusing on Arthur. I think it's a nice to way to completely detach Arthur from the Batman lore, however, "Lee" is still referred to as "Harley Quinnzell" in the movie, so it still wouldn't make A LOT of sense. I think "Lee" should've stayed Lee, age-wise she couldn't be Harley anymore, even if they tried to make it make sense.

I don't think this was missed on anybody who was paying attention. The guy killed Joaquin and then was cackling maniacally a pretty clear 'passing' of the Joker mantle.

Like you said, the guy didn't have much screen time but had enough it was obvious he was going to do something at some point. By that final sequence it was obvious what was going to unfold but it was still lame and heavy handed while somehow also being a total non-event.

You're right! The mental gymnastics I did around that was that Lee fell out of love with Arthur when he became fully Arthur and not the Joker, and my headcannon is that later on she meets the 'real' Joker who fully embodies that crazy persona she fell in love with and she falls actually, madly in love with him, like the real Harley. Because tbh in JFAD she was never really obsessed with him like the character usually is, she was somewhat indifferent and was using him. He was interesting to her. I thought that was just because they were trying to do a reversal of the typical Joker who doesn't care about Harley and uses her while she's obsessed with him. But I used that in my own headcannon :laughga:  she would still be too old though. But whatever it works better in my mind

Literally noone I've spoken to caught it and everything I've read online and when people talk about the ending noone mentions it! I thought I was going crazy until I saw an article about it. It's like it was the big twist of the whole movie but noone even knows and/or cares :smh:

The Ew from Judas

People missed that? I caught that right away, you hear the knife cutting his mouth open and all that

i know people are gonna be totally 50/50 on the ending but I thought it was actually pretty clever-this creepy concept that no matter what, the joker always lives on-a point that the first movie really tries to hammer in as well. And it makes the timeline make more sense (with the exception of Harley, which someone already mentioned)

And thе Lord sends Gabriel to take me away

Ah, what a fine young son to take my place

I'll leave a son in a heaven on earth

I'm fairly certain majority of viewers worked out the ending, same with Harvey Dent/Two Face during the court explosion scene. The reason people aren't talking about the ending is because Arthur himself no longer wanted to be Joker, so why would we care that he died? The pay off wasn't there for it be a oh my god moment.

A huge amount of the commentary I read about the movie included this point, people did not miss it at all.

In the film it is stated that she is studying to be a psychistrist, but isn't one yet. Technically she could get her degree, the new Joker could become the criminal he eventually becomes, and then they can at one point meet in the asylum.

However, that would still leave us with a Harley that is older than the Joker, and we'd have to believe that Arkham Asylum would really hire a woman that was known to be obsessed with Arthur, to treat the new Joker :laughga:. It's kinda hard to buy it :enigma:. I appreciate the director's effort to "wrap it up" for us Batman fans, and try to make it make sense, but I don't think it truly does make a lot of sense :flippy:

Yeah I totally missed that, I didn’t see him cutting a smile into his face

completely went over my head

i was baffled how bad of an ending it was for both Lee and Arthur and how the hell did the security guards just disappear before he was killed

Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”

Yup, that is what I am thinking too. I literally said this to someone I watched it with after I walked in parking lot after the movie fan premiere screening.

I swear I was watching closely in the background to catch Harvey but I couldn't see him :saladga:

I just saw a guy cut in half under a table, and a guy with some blood on his face, but he didn't seem injured?

I don’t know if we can say this is specifically the Joker from the Batman universe that’s being created. To me, the ending shows that the Joker is not just one person but a movement, and Arthur’s death doesn’t mean this is the end of Joker.
