spicemuncher 1,591
It’s not the genre of movies I enjoy, but I went to support Gaga. I liked her acting in this and there were definitely some standout scenes, but I unfortunately tend to agree with the slightly more negative reviews about the pacing and storyline. There was a lot of everything and a whole lot of nothing at the same time. I felt like her character developed in the movie as it progressed, but we missed any of her internal dialogue that explains it. Lee would have benefitted from additional scenes where she’s solo, only for us to form a stronger connection with the character and understand her purpose a little more. Personally, I don’t see myself watching this at the cinema again, but I’ll be looking forward to a director’s cut on Blu-ray to add to my collection and hope for more Gaga too!
NarlesLM 497
Just watched it and loved it (9/10 for me) and I usually over analyze movies. I agree with all these posts: On 10/1/2024 at 2:05 PM, lilboyblue said: Sometimes I feel like this base has been infiltrated by Gaga haters, like it's weird how some so-called "fans" can't at least celebrate this feather in her cap. Gaga is being praised for her acting. People want more of her. Why are so many people crying?? Some critics/people lied about not having original song. Also, unfair they gave the film negative reviews just because of Gaga being underused. 1st, there is an original song and it was elegant & beautiful. 2nd, Lee was felt almost the entire film, of course Arthur has more scenes since it is his story, but Lee was ESSENTIAL. This is not a professional opinion but I would spend a whole day discussing to Warner it would be unfair if Gaga is campaigned "supporting" just because of lesser screen time than Joaquin or maybe she has more chances winning "supporting" than "lead." Before watching this film, I liked the idea of her being campaigned for supporting due to "more chances of winning" but i changed my mind, she deserves LEAD nomination for what she did. And I am sorry, i apologize to Lady Gaga for doubting her prowess just because of the early reviews. Overall, I think this is her best film, above A Star Is Born, Joker 2 is heaviest and most impactful. A LOT OF TRIGGER WARNING, although this was already obvious on the 1st film, but sequel is way way way more trigger warning. Please be careful & take care of yourselves before & after watching this movie. PERSONAL RANKING: Film as a whole 1. Joker 2 2. A Star Is Born 3. House Of Gucci Gaga's acting 1. Joker 2 2. House Of Gucci 3. A Star Is Born Congrats Gaga and Happy October Monsters. A great & special year indeed. Every song really works with the darker themes, and it left me feeling super uncomfortable. By the end, I was speechless, filled with sadness, tons of questions, and a weird sense of empathy. It’s way darker and harder to watch than the first one. Honestly, I can totally see Joaquin winning Best Actor, and Gaga has a real shot at Best Supporting Actress. I also don't think they underused Gaga, her screen time makes sense. I also got the huge official movie poster from my local cinema! They had a seat lottery, and I actually won. I was so stoked, they use the same posters to promote the movies outside and inside the theater. @gerrygaga you described the movie the same way as I would. People whining about screen time / no point of existing didn't understand or didn't care to get in the ride that was being purposed. Man that's really what a sequel should be, continuing a storytelling about its main character following the consequences os what happened in the first movie. And Lee was in almost half of the movie for me, even when she wasn't physically you could almost feel/taste the main character longing for her. That said I really think Gaga has supporting actress on lock, with real chances of a win if correctly campaigning. Love you all, and love mother more than ever. Her performance on that last stair scene screams: ABSOLUTE CINEMA! MDevacelli 1,245
I wish I could disagree with the negative reviews, but that’s it. She’s impeccable, but the musical aspect is really unnecessary (which is where Lee is more present) and they could used that time to give her character more development. Monet 822
Spoiler I realised only after reading some first impressions here that they cut her ICONIC elevator scene But yeah, Gaga was severely underused

I think Gaga picks projects that on paper are perfect for her and then doesn’t give up until she has secured it. This is clearly a case of her and her team negotiating with Warner Bros to be included in the film and Todd just adapted it a bit to cater to having a bigger star in the film. But Todd said that he invited her, right? And even send the script to her before it was finished, because it was easier to write with an actor in mind
buzzkill 4,854
To be completely honest, it’s super no expected but also it’s quite sarcastic and on the nose, when you notice they are really playing the “of course this film doesnt add anything new, we didnt want to do another one, that’s why we are playing with it” you can enjoy it even more, the ending super well put and i wasnt left with the impression that Gaga was chopped out, she was there and her presence was felt even when she wasnt on screen. Its a good movie and in 5 years will be a camp classic. Edited October 3 by buzzkill
King of the Fall 3,774
Not gonna lie, I thought the movie was pretty terrible as an overall experience and actually thought some of the reviews were being too charitable. I only watched it to support Gaga and left feeling like I had wasted my time so just imagine what the general public or fans of the first film feel like Although Gaga does the best she can with what she's given, her character is a big letdown because of how poorly developed Harley is. Not only that but they cut out a bunch of her best scenes and looks. The musical elements don't work at all because they do nothing to tell the story of the film and feel like pointless interruptions as oppossed to successful musicals like The Greatest Showman. Hey, I'm king of the world, you ought to hear my song, you come on measure me, I'm twenty inches long
