I like it, the only thing I don't 100% love is the emphasis she puts on her vocals.  It's very broadway musical-esque,  but then again, maybe this album is meant to be her "audition" of sorts, to spark interest with broadway producers.  In the way Joanne could be seen as a segway to ASIB

I think it's less how she is singing and more how its produced. There are little differences in her phrasing and pronunciation that are more Broadway like, but it sounds like it was recorded how they would a cast recording for a musical. Its not necessarily less polished, they just want it to sound live and that it was possibly done in one take. Her vocals sound a bit more raw which is better for a character to be more obvious- like a musical. 

If people aren't used to musical recordings, I could see them being a bit startled by it because it is definitely different than any of her pop releases.

Yeah, agreed. I love the more live-feeling production aesthetic because you can really hear all of the details (but, then again, I grew up listening to cast recordings so lol)

Oh same! I am a musical child so this is my wheelhouse. I've been defending Gaga in the Broadway community since Sondheim came for her so I've been ready for this. But I do understand if someone won't like it because it's definitely not for everybody. I think thats why she has her pop album ready in the wings lol.

I think I already read it on here… the beginning really reminds me a bit of TS’s singing, and then the “poor laughing fool” reminds me a lit of Jessica Lange in Gods and monsters (AHS Freakshow)
