Mathjus 657
I don't know. Katy is a product, that's for sure. I always thought that an artist should create what wants and feels. Some people will like this music, others will not. it has to be honest

monstertoronto 9,341
The quote isn’t “throwing shade” at artsy singers at all. It’s about finding balance. The full quote is “you can be too arty and lose your audience or you can be too charty and lose your art.” Finding a balance between being too experimental and losing your audience and being too chart obsessed and not making “art”. I know everyone hates Katy right now but let’s not drag her with made up claims.

gemein3 1,255
Didn’t she come out with a song about female empowerment, yet here she was, years ago, belittling the artistry of other women…she’s just too manufactured and it’s caught up to her. Karma, Katheryn.
OliviaRodrigoStan 5,487
I think it's the opposite? . She's literally saying that if you focus too much on charts, you lose your "art" and your production becomes dishonest. The second phrase is relevant to the whole tweet. I think she's being supportive of artists who release material that's adventurous. Also, wasn't it public that Katy's ex was in owe of Gaga's artistry, and said that he respected the fact that she stood her ground with "ARTPOP" despite its perceived negative reception? . I'm sure he was still with her when those statements were made public, and I'm sure that was most likely a conversation he had with her, privately. I wouldn't be surprised if those type of commrnts made ~Katy~ feel self aware about her music, and she was the one feeling dishonest for her albums being so easy to digest. And she DID release "Witness" after saying this, an album where she very deliberately tried to be more experimental and politically involved. I don't think it's shade, I think it's the opposite. AVeryGagaHolyDick 23,463
There’s no shade, and I think it’s about Joanne
Emvee 8,130
Katy was high off the success of Prism and during this time Perfect Illusion had already failed to break the top 10 after its release and Million Reasons was also struggling, no? Million Reasons only broke the top 10 after the Super Bowl. She 100% was thinking of Gaga when she wrote that. Little did she know her own decline was imminent. lol Edited September 20, 2024 by Emvee
