The Key!!she can’t sign that song live, is such a tricky key, is right on her vocal break. To the regular listener it sounds pushed and not pleasant, nobody liked the sound quality and she refused to sing that song live

Because the song is bad and she should've not let Bloodpop change the original Tame Impala demo

I actually really like the song! 🤷🏻‍♀️ It‘s one of her best. Just because something isn‘t commercially that successful doesn’t meant it‘s a bad song. On the contrary, the charts are not a good indicator of good music. PI is everything but a basic, GP friendly pop song. And that’s its “problem”.

The synths are amazing but NGL I like Kevin Parker's demo more ...

I like the demo too, but that one felt more Tame Impala ft. Lady Gaga and I think she knew that too.

However I do hope for the 10th anniversary it gets a remix EP. It's odd how there was 0 official remixes for PI :poot:

I mean, I feel like the point has already been made but the way Gaga sang that song wasn't particularly pleasant to listen to. Its interesting that PI went from this dreamy, trippy, neo-psychedelic demo which was very current at the time, to this very harsh, loud, in your face song that didnt fit with the musical landscape. Imo Rihanna did a better job taking a Tame Impala song and making it her own with Same Ol Mistakes that year.

But wasn't her cover a literal copy/paste of the original song, cept her vocals on top of Kevin's?

Just not that great a song imo. If I listen to Joanne, which I do sometimes, I don't skip it, but it doesn't feature on any of my compillation playlists. Others have made similar points above, it sounds like Gaga is almost competing with the music and the overall effect is overbearing.

Having said all that I'm going to shoehorn it into a playlist and see how it does.

Maybe instrumentally yes, so we would’ve not got the snoozefest Joanne was :traumatica: but let’s be real the song is weak and it’s not a good lead either

I remember detesting it as soon as it came out. Of course, many of us were expecting a dance track back then. But what bothered me the most was the production. It seemed rushed, it lacked "parts", the chorus sounded uninspired... The bridge was practically inaudible. I always thought that the song would benefit a lot if it had more "air", not all so cluttered. Or if the base had some disco elements, maybe along the lines of I want your love (without losing the rock core). Or if it exploited a more eighties vein, like Bon Jovi's Livin on a Prayer (I need a Gaga album in this direction). Having said all that, today I think it's a great track and one of Joanne's best. I do think Diamond Heart would have been a more interesting choice.

This + the vocals are annoying af
