Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile” notches a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Die With a Smile,”  totaled 61.8 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 4% week-over-week), 28 million official streams (up 3%) and 5,000 sold (down 8%) in the United States Jan. 3-9.

The track tallies a second week at No. 1 on the Streaming Songs chart, holds at its No. 2 high on Radio Songs and lifts 4-3 on Digital Song Sales, which it led for two weeks. 

Notably, “Die With a Smile” is Lady Gaga’s second Hot 100 No. 1 duet ballad, following “Shallow,” with Bradley Cooper. The latter, from the movie A Star Is Born, starring the pair, led for a week in March 2019. Gaga is just the second artist to top the Hot 100 with two duet ballads between a male and female soloist and no other billed acts. Ariana Grande initiated the honor via “Stuck With U” with Justin Bieber, in May 2020, and “Die for You” with The Weeknd (after she joined for its remix), in March 2023.

The way radio is going to be the reason DWAS starts blocking people from going #1 :triggered: we've become what we despised

True, but if radio didn't have such big weight, DWAS could already have been #1 for multiple weeks last year...

So, the song would be #1 either way, in fact, without radio the song would have probably been #1 for around 4 weeks last year

Not sure if radio will be carrying kendrick and bad bunny, DWAS juste needs to keep on being stable on streams and we're in for #1 during multiple weeks :enigma:

It still amazes me how radio has such an important weight in the charts. If the plays were based on requests, ok, but the audience consumes what they (call it money, call it radio owners, etc) decide to play :madge:

It's also why the top 10 becomes stagnant for long periods of time, radio takes *way longer* to adopt and drop songs. I wish streaming/sales point were weighed higher, we'd have a more dynamic hot100.

Hot 100 has evolved many times and was never based solely on sales. None of the 3 current metrics - sales, streams, airplay - measure the same thing. Sales require you to actually exchange limited $ for music, whereas streaming requires nothing of the end user except time.

If running a playlist on YouTube counts toward the same chart as buying a CD, why is counting Radio a big deal? Streaming relies on curated playlists, sales can be influenced by pricing, marketing, etc. 

If a song ultimately doesn’t connect, it’ll drop off playlists, shelves, and airways. No formula can perfectly measure the popularity of music, and any arm of the industry is open to corruption, but I think the current methodology works fine most of the time.

C'mon, how can those 3 metrics be comparable? Audience decide actively either to buy or stream a song, but in the radio, audience plays a passive role
