Joe Biden withdraws from presidential election

The keys have never had to apply to an election where

-one candidate is replaced 3.5 months beforehand

-one candidate is a former president who was booted from serving a second term

-one candidate is a recently convicted felon, with additional felony charges moving towards trial, and a history of insurrection

any of those alone could be enough to throw the “keys” system out if wack, let alone the unknown permutations of having all 3. 
 

I’m not interested in predicting the election or proposing an alternative prediction method. What matters is voting.

Obama endorsed a mini primary and not Kamala - likely because he knows she has a worse chance than Biden.

 

Also apparently all the White House aides found out on X, they had no idea he was dropping out (I call bs) but I’m not sure if Biden actually is aware he’s dropped out yet to be honest…

Again though, these factors don’t change the principles of the keys but his model has been accurate for almost 40 years and it also applies to elections prior. You could argue social media etc impact these things but ultimately they don’t. Obviously I hope to god the Dems win whatever the case and people need to vote but it’s swing voters that matter more than anything in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. If this process on the Dem side isn’t strong and they don’t come together and look split, it’ll be Hillary part 2 all over again I’m afraid.

He knows but I wonder if there’s more than the he can’t win camp, is there a more significant reason health wise etc. I’m concerned more so about Obama’s message, I think it would have been wiser to endorse a candidate but making it open ended is a precarious move because his opinion matters a great deal. 
 

On a lighter note, I think this whole situation will be making Trump extremely nervous indeed. His Vice pick is weak and the rhetoric from their convention and Vance’s recent tweet won’t win swing voters, it puts them off. It’s still very much winnable for the Dems.

Harris is such a good candidate because she can credibly claim the accomplishments of the administration without being held responsible for any of Biden's specific mistakes. She literally exists in the context of what came before but is also unburdened by what has been.

Hell yes. I had ZERO hope for Biden as nominee. The criticism about him being too old to run wasn't something he could ever get rid of. 

I've seen the sentiment "I wish I could vote for anyone other than an old man" so much and now, well here you go, people finally have an alternative. 

I'm hoping people are now encouraged to vote for Harris and not just against Trump like what happened in the last election. And the last election didn't have "Biden can't speak coherently anymore" as a major issue against him.

2. I agree. Kamala has the unique position where people who don’t want drastic changes/liked Biden can look at her as an incumbent, and people who don’t like Biden can look at her as a change candidate

Her past as the attorney general has gotten backlash. I remember people disliking her during her 2020 presidential campaign because of her past with police and stuff. Honestly, I'm kind of surprised by the recent surge of Kamala love. I mean, as a person she seems cool and she's a lot more relatable (especially to younger people) than Biden, but I think the social media push for her to take Biden's spot might be overestimated.
