I kinda wish that Billboard would start putting a cap on the variants.  I can get my head around one deluxe version, not a bunch of them.  Alternatively, make a rule that for variant releases to count there has to be a minimum of like three new tracks (not counting live/remix versions), so you can’t have Taylor releasing four CDs with a slightly different cover and one different bonus track.

I also feel like standard edition physical sales should be weighted more heavily than variant sales. Maybe variants should count as 0.75 or 0.5 physical sales? I probably wouldn't have even said this a year ago, but if it's primarily your fanbase who's buying the variants more as a collectible than anything, it shouldn't carry quite as much weight as someone from the general public buying a standard edition of your album.

I can't even be mad, respect the hustle lmao But she better not try anything when Gaga releases though :dom:

We’re going to be blocked by reputation TV let’s be real I don’t see a week in the forseeable future that Taylor doesn’t want her latest release on top

is that confirmed this year? I went to looking for numbers and holy sh*t! 1989 (TV) did 1.359 million copies 1st week and that's the most recent, Red (TV) did 1.2 million 1st week! Gaga can't beat these numbers :saladga: Nobody can :saladga:

I hope her team is not sleeping and has a good timing planned for #1 album, if Swifts blocks her I riot :grr:

Anyone actually celebrating this is just a delusional Taylor stan tbh

How many weeks would it have been at no.1 without any variants?

The fact that Taylor almost single-handedly turned chart success into something that people do not take seriously anymore because everyone knows there are elements that are not organic :messga:

Like back in 2010-11 when Katy had 5 #1 singles it was still an impressive feat or when Adele was selling millions and Taylor herself was selling 1 million+ albums in the first week throughout 2010s, it was impressive. But now with versions and variants, it's become so irrelevant :wtfga:

Katy had 5 #1 singles at that time due to releasing remixes and the re-packaging of Teenage Dream.

The re-packaging happened after the 5 #1 singles. And apart from E. T. none of the singles had major remixes.

Lemme tell you if all female artists released 30 versions of the same album, she wouldn't be the only one. It's nothing but cheating her way up to the top while scamming her fans at the same time. I don't understand how her fans still celebrate her "achievements".

Yall underestimate her, not every pop girl could achieve that even releasing 200 versions, u would need a Huuuuuge loyal fanbase for that, not everyone has that

How many main pop girls you think could achieve this by releasing 200 variats, lets not underestimate her, lots of main pop girls struggle with streaming and pure sales with only one album, imagine the struggle with more

this fanbase shouldnt be fighting with swiftis whom are a force, yall should be friends with them so they can help Gagz 💜

There isn’t an official announcement yet. It’s been rumored to be released since November 23 but I think she’ll drop it this year. Some fans are speculating that she will announce soon because of a Reputation-coded dress she wore in Milan a couple days ago. Might be just delusion as well lol

Her numbers are indeed way too impressive, even without variants. But I really don’t think she would try to block Gaga. Besides the fact they have a friendly relation, Gaga is one of the biggest names in the music industry with a solid career. And I have the impression her beef is centered around the new generation, such as Billie and Charli. It’s easier to pull off a block on a newbie without a gigantic fanbase.

Bish please, Katy wouldn't achieve the same if she releases 100 versions. Neither would 95% of them bishes. So stay bothered and keep killing that streaming button for her to break another record, wheee!

No one here is talking about Katy, I'm talking about artists who aren't total flops. Also if you think I'm streaming this water soup album and "killing that streaming button" you are damn wrong. Keep lying to yourself if that makes you feel better "bish".

Oh I remember that but California Gurls, Teenage Dream and Firework were straight #1s. ET got the Kanye remix, Last Friday Night got a Missy Elliot remix and The One That Got Away got an Acoustic version so they could push them and break MJ’s record. The One That Got Away peaked at #2 and That’s when they decided to do the re-release with Part of Me which went #1 and tied MJ.
