goodness gracious, let this die.

it’s literally so 10 years ago, no offense but still being interested in this is kinda cringe.

I love Madonna and will always find her a beautiful woman.  That being said it seemed a little hypocritical her sort of shading Gaga for Born This Way.  Express Yourself sounds a lot like the song below

Her fans surely love to call out plagiarism but they always forget about their queen herself. :billie: I love Madonna but it's well know how she just steals stuff for herself and nobody seems to care.

hon, it’s not about you. my point is there isn’t that much insight you’d get from ggd about this that isn’t already online.

besides being accused of copying her in Born This Way followed by Madonna saying it was reductive to her, not that much happened really.

it was mostly media and both fanbases creating this narrative. that’s why I think we should refrain from discussing it.

This is a discussion board, people discuss. Don't participate if it's not of interest to you.

I’m a fan of both. My two cents:

Madonna was a groundbreaking, game changing, provocative blonde pop star when she started.

Lady Gaga was a groundbreaking, game changing, provocative blonde pop star when she started.

Comparisons were inevitable, they both handled it well and had campy fun with it.

Then Born This Way (a good song) came out. It had an uplifting message, but it sounded too similar to Express Yourself (a great song).

On purpose? Who knows. Businesswomen are gonna business…. 💰

But LG should not have lied and said she had Madonna’s “blessing” to make the song,

unless she was counting on the controversy.

Again, businesswoman are gonna business 💰

Madonna’s “reductive” reaction WAS fair 🤷🏽‍♂️ Full stop.

But at this point, I think they are both bored of each other’s presence/indifferent to each other,

and likely won’t interact again until given a reason that benefits one (or both) of them 💰

They have their own lanes now.

Give peace a chance ☮️💚

There’s no beef. Women supporting women is in style - as it should be.

I don't like Madonna nowadays but it was honestly just people not understanding her sense of humor and ignoring the selective, shady media editing of the now iconic "reductive" interview.

Madonna literally said she did NOT think Gaga was copying her and that she was her own artist who merely sometimes references her (about which she said it was often "well done"), but that this one song felt a little weird when she first heard it. The interviewer wouldn't let it go so Madonna made a shady comment and moved on. I'm sure she was surprised and entertained that people made such a huge mess about it. Cue her cheekily referencing the "feud" during the capitalism/pop culture/vanity act of her high concept tour and people made an even bigger mess. Remember Madonna invited Gaga to perform that mash-up with her (arguably to squash rumors of the feud even existing) and Gaga refused.

Madonna complimented Gaga plenty pre-2012 while everyone was calling her the new Madonna and kept annoyingly asking her about what she thought about Gaga during interviews. She also kept her mouth shut while everyone and their mother was calling BTW an EY rip-off for a whole year. The only even slightly negative comment she made was "yeah, I recognized the chord progression when I heard that song on the radio" when an interviewer decided to directly ask her about it, which is not even that bad considering Gaga herself spontaneously and messily called out both Nicki and Katy for supposedly copying her (and in both cases, they clearly didn't). Gaga took it so personally 'cause she was on her high horse and let that "feud" go on for way too long.
