Whereas I am only listening to a few specific songs on Tortured Poets and Cowboy Carter.

I think this is more about the quality of music than the duration of the albums.

Dumb take. Length of an album should be determined by what kind of story you're trying to tell. Whether that is 8 tracks or 18, that is up to the artist.

That could've been ARTPOP and Act II. :cyanlights:

I guess? I think Cowboy Carter is high quality though, so it’s more so not remembering everything because there is just too much. I’m not saying I’ll never listen to these again, but I’m more likely to see that an album is only 30-40 minutes and just choose to play it all the way through over others. For instance I’ve already listened to Dua’s several times over the other two. Not necessarily because I like her more, or that I think it’s just so much better than everything else. I’m sure there are songs on TTPD and CC that I like just as much but I don’t listen to them as often.

Also because I’m listening to Dua and Ariana’s more, the songs that were not my fav but wouldn’t skip are now getting better. The same types of songs on the other albums aren’t getting that same attention because of the album length.

For me, at least on paper, perfect length is 13-14 songs, with lengths between 03'30" and 04'30".

Yep, this is the average I expect, but length of songs could be anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes for me. Anything beyond that feels like whiplash or a chore

I can't be free if my hands are tied... 🧟‍♀️👰🏻

Eh, my thought process is: if the artist has an hour plus of great music to release? Go for it. If you don’t, but could release a jam packed short LP without sacrificing quality? Then do that. Not really an either/or situation in my book and I appreciate varied album lengths.

I feel like short albums are only good if the artist puts out music frequently. Otherwise it feels like there's not enough and there's a dry spell for their next project

Short albums are much more digestible and I'm more likely to remember them and return to them. But they should be relative to how long the artist has been away. I can't stand it when an artist is gone for 5 years and then has the nerve to return with a 10 track album about 40 minutes long and doesn't even follow it up sooner afterwards to make up for it. It has contempt for the listener. And then there's the question of if albums should be priced based on their duration. It stands to reason that an 10 track borderline EP of 36 minutes should be cheaper than a 20 track epic consisting of 70 minutes. But then that would encourage super long albums by everyone regardless of quality. But you must feel ripped off paying the same amount for less. But I'd rather an overly long album than 2 short albums in the same year (maybe if the Grammys operated their eligibility period to a regular Jan-Dec calendar year, it wouldn't happen). It encourages you to immediately move on from the last body of work and it halts any further promo of the album that came first.

King Princess said 11 tracks for KP3. Part of me was all only 11 ?

OMG I literally had the same thought when she said that! hahha but tbh I love how they're actually bringing 3-4 min songs back because i'm not a fan of 2min songs.
(btw i once sang with KP on stage!!! it's on my insta :D )
