TheBeast 1,367 Posted April 29, 2024 Share Posted April 29, 2024 The Lion King (1994) is my third favorite movie of all time (behind Titanic and Avatar). When the remake was announced, I was somewhat skeptical that they'd be able to capture the magic of the original. The remake was not terrible. It wasn't nearly as good as the original, but when I stepped into the theater I went in with zero expectations as if I was watching an original, new movie. Of course that was difficult when a lot of the script was exactly the same, but nevertheless, I think it was a decent remake. Watching this, I feel the same way. The 5 year old kid in me is excited to experience a new Lion King story with new cutting edge graphics and visuals. But the 33 year old in me (god I feel ancient even mentioning my age) feels extremely uneasy that this may be the first film in the Lion King saga that will be hated by many, including myself. I am excited for new original music by Lin Manuel and Beyonce though. I just hope he captures the magic of Hans Zimmer, Tim Rice and Elton John. I dunno. We'll see I guess.
