The Democrats supported it because the republicans randomly decided to try and use it as a bargaining chip on foreign aid. The end result is a provision that will likely never come into effect, but the Dems got the foreign aid they wanted and got to watch the GOP self implode for a 2nd time in one term. The only reason it didn't happen is that it was held back by the courts -- and then Biden repealed it. That's right, the only thing here that you can actually, fairly, attribute to Biden was a repeal of Trump's order. Meanwhile, again, the new provision -- an act of Congress -- is part of a much larger bill, containing vital aid, which Biden is not going to veto over ****ing TikTok. This also sets a very dangerous precedent when out of touch lawmakers think they have the right to just go around proposing bans on things.
