sounds like a great reason to ban it

random people with no education talking and lecturing others on stuff they don't know anything about

ban that ****

That can and does happen, sure, just like it does on every social media app, news channel, and even face to face conversation.

But it's also an app that is used to spread accurate information, educate people about the facts surrounding certain issues that don't get widely and visibly reported on, and has been used with great effectiveness by a legitimate activist groups to help spread their message and organize things like charity events, protests, and more.

It also played an instrumental role in helping marginalized voters get their voices heard during the 2020 election, especially in areas where Republicans had gerrymandered districts to hell and back to the point that vulnerable minority communities didn't even know where they could go vote anymore. The role apps like TikTok played in terms of outreach to those communities in places like Georgia cannot be overstated. It was vital in helping the brave individuals who were leading that movement get their work done.

There’s really no good reason to ban it, but okay lmao

TikTok isn’t controlled by an American corporation like Meta, so all of the Meta lobbyists were undoubtedly behind the push to get TikTok banned to eliminate their competition

Yeah, we should probably just let the government shut down and/or censor the internet atp, right? Given that it’s such a powerful tool for spreading misinformation and all

This is so stupid lol

Pretty sure this also violates several bits from the first, fourth, and fifth amendments so I don't expect it to be upheld at all.

All it's gonna do is piss off young voters which is why Repukes don't care :ladyhaha:

I hope that if it does get sold to a US company, they don’t destroy its algorithm or fill it with more ads. It’s one of the only platforms for me that doesn’t shove homophobic/transphobic/right wing garbage into my feed. A lot of the US based social media algorithms like to push inflammatory things to all sides because rage has better engagement. Like how you see boomers ranting about ridiculous (often fake) things on Facebook designed to provoke them

Never forget when young people (some even too young to vote) organized on TikTok and trolled Trump :icant:

You can't tell me this isn't the biggest reason Repukes are terrified of TikTok :ladyhaha:

Shame the Dems are stupid enough to go along with it though. Really shooting themselves in the foot here.

this is such nonsense, TikTok isn't causing your democracy to crumble before your very eyes America. It's your decaying politicians, lack of a separation of powers & more

REALITY

I'm cackling that some of y'all are saying "But it spreads misinformation!" as if it's a legitimate reason :lmao:

You know what else spreads misinformation? Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Fox News, Truth Social, the list goes on and on...We gonna ban all of them too? I don't care for TikTok as a platform—I've never used it—but this is pointless. The government's got more important things to do than this, and the whole "it's for national security" reasons seems like a load of BS imo.
