Reject False Icons 4,718
I feel everyone has had it, but in popstars it is more evident, right? after all that work, fame and fortune they always reach a breaking point and after the catharsis we look for "spiritual stuff" to look for calmness and existensial answers to endure life What albums or eras you know are "the spiritual reborn era" of your fave AND what comes after them? do we forget all we learned in that peroid? There are tons of examples write as many as you want My take is "Ray of light" it is the definitive spiritual reborn album, it made yoga sooo popular in the west, as kabala too, I feel people love this album so much cause they listened to it while in an existencial crisis and it was a comforting and healing company Also I want to share Solar Power cause Lorde adds more questions to the classic spiritual crisis albums, she states she's no savior to her fans, she doesn't posses a greater knowledge shes just another human having a crisis, and also comments on these spiritual rituals, the extractivist nature of them and erasure of indigenous significance to appeal to the west consumption Edited April 17, 2024 by Reject False Icons
Anderson123 36,439
Christina's Lotus and Britney's Glory were probably there but not as in full concept. Avril Lavigne - Head Above Water
Magic Mike 2,684
Ethel Cain's "Preacher's Daughter" Edit: "Ray of Light" is a masterpiece and I only wish Gaga could do something similar. "Ray of Light" is truly in a league of its own. The ethereal vocals, electronic beats, and introspective lyrics create a transcendent listening experience that I find myself coming back to time and time again. StrawberryBlond 14,331
One of the most evident examples I can think of The Sting by Gabriella Cilmi. She had a big top 10 hit when she was really young and broke out onto the scene with a surprisingly mature style for her age that was different to what was popular but then her label encouraged her to be more current and sexy for her next album and it wasn't her true style. She got dropped and independently released The Sting where she cut her hair, was more reserved and included sad songs about how she was forced into changing to please her label and how she thought her fame was all too good to be true. She's not released anything since, I hope she's ok. Lana Del Rey put out NFR after becoming sober and songs involved a lot about moving on and accepting new circumstances. It was also her highest rated album from a critical standpoint and they seemed to pick up on how she was in a different place with her music. Demi Lovato released Dancing With The Devil...The Art Of Starting Over after becoming sober and facing up to her old demons of addiction, eating disorders and toxic relationships. And this was further extended by her follow-up, Holy Fvck the next year where she went back to her pop rock roots and made the hardest rock sounds she'd ever done in a way that sounded really cathartic. holy scheisse 21,809
Lordes mood ring is supposedly just satire about faux-spirituality isn’t it? Solar power does feel kinda like a spiritual album though. ROL is legendary… the best Madonna album in my opinion! I would love Gaga’s spiritual album but it would need to be authentic, not a forced concept and just a new (pink) hat to wear for a new era
Reject False Icons 4,718
Since my thread flopped and even though it barely got revived, I’ll post the other albums I was thinking about Katy Perry kinda splits it in half of two albums between PRISM and Witness with the second half of PRISM talking about her suicidal thoughts and how she has found god and a couple more songs and witness where she talks about depression and feeling trapped Miley Cyrus on Dead Petz even though the era was perceived as her being psychedelic and intoxicated, she actually had that spiritual reborn with songs like Tiger dreams and 1 sun and a bit with Malibu but not the rest of younger now except for Inspired Edited April 19, 2024 by Reject False Icons
