I know a lot of people dealing with the drugs he uses, and while it's tough, he seems to be in the category of functioning addict. That makes it harder in some ways, but also also, less sad. Good for him for getting help, but it doesn't have to be this big dramatic thing. He has the time and money and will to change so it's the only sane choice.
