It also can't be denied that Katy's youthful music isn't working for her aging fanbase. Her team making her cater to the kid demographic for so long (including making Prism a less risque version of Teenage Dream to make her audience even younger) was a huge mistake. It means Katy's viewed as an artist for kids by her peers and the public and therefore, not to be taken seriously. 

The GP and others also tried to end Britney's career and even did a radio ban in the early 00s and she still survived that, even with some of her biggest classics not getting much airplay at radio. She still stayed the biggest star in the world at that time.

Are we forgetting Gaga wanted to quit music altogether? The difference is that her label allowed her to release C2C and she started acting.

SHE decided to stop working with Dr. Luke after the Kesha story went public, and she relied on him a lot to get hits. People didn't enjoy her music as much without Dr. Luke resulting in lower sales.

SHE changed her hair style because she didn't want to be Katy Perry anymore. We all know the GP's reaction to her hair & new style was awul.

SHE trashtalked Britney Spears a few times at the beginning of the PRISM era. I remember this got her a lot of hate on Internet in 2013 which is when her popularity decline really started.

SHE never evolved with her sound and image, so people got bored of her. The reason why Harleys In Hawaii is her most memorable song of the last decade is because it's so different from her usual sound and image.

 

She changed her hairstyle because she saw it worked with Miley imo. But she didn't do a full rebrand so it wasn't really working in her favor. I think she would have found a lot more success had she not pulled the stunts she had.

What I’m saying is: the framing of Katy being “sabotaged” makes it seem like it was somehow unique to her, when Gaga went thru the same, if not worse (showing it was more the nature of clickbait journalism at the time as opposed to a targeted attack against KP).

Katy Perry just suffered from a few things: she was always problematic (with songs like ur so gay and i kissed a girl) and a bit cringe, which was cute in 2008 but didn't age well. As the times changed she kind of got lost and didn't know how to adapt, which led to stuff like witness and chained to the rhythm. She also isn't that talented as as songwriter imo, and was relying mainly on Dr. Luke and Max Martin. Obviously people don't want to work with Luke anymore and for some reason she stopped working with Max, and since her music only has depth when it's a hit and she isn't working with proper hitmakers anymore, she hasn't been able to replicate her success. If she did another album with Max Martin she could probably go back up in sales – but I don't think the world deserves that, it's time to let it go. 

As for *who* sabotaged Katy, it was obviously Taylor Swift. The girl went full pop for 1989 to compete with her, wrote Bad Blood about her and even uploaded her entire catalog back onto spotify the day Witness was released just to ruin her debut week streams.

sorry to say but Katy is nothing without Dr. Luke. It just proves ANYONE can be a massive pop star with the right pop songs. Bonnie McKee could have been just as successful

you also need to have the right looks tbh, katy perry is a beautiful woman so singing becomes a "nice to have" as soon as you can look good.  imagine the primary skill required for a career being "nice to have". imagine if surgeons could be pretty and not know how to perform open heart surgery and still get hired just because they look good.  this industry is so weird sometimes.
