Kind of an interesting/confusing stance from him, tbh. 15-16 weeks is largely consistent with what many other liberal democracies in Europe have implemented, so it’s nowhere near as draconian as many of the policies of his state-level counterparts. Not to mention that the vast majority of abortions take place within this period, so it’s not a particularly inhumane policy (given that he’s also indicated he supports exceptions in the case of incest, rape, and to save the life of the mother). That being said, I don’t personally believe in this policy and neither will most of his supporters. They’ll consider 16 weeks too liberal and pro-choice advocates will be concerned about it being too restrictive. Truly a man without a country on this issue lmao. Kinda shows that the “dog catching the car” of Dobbs has ripped conservatives apart on this issue.

This policy is actually what “meeting in the middle” would be like. 

Anyone with intelligence knows most abortions happen before this. 

However, the issue is they struck down Roe and “left it up to the states” but now want a federal ban/restriction on something they said would be the states’ choice. 

They will try to do this with other issues. 

Example: Same-sex marriage. They’ll overturn the decision and then leave it up to the states. Then they’ll try to pass a national ban on certain rights pertaining to marriage that same-sex marriages would be excluded from.

No, he's responsible for overturning Roe v. Wade, which destroyed choice for woman across the country.

I actually think his base will just adapt this opinion as their own rather than find an issue with it. At least the majority of them.

Kinda depends, tbh. His base is comprised of a lot of hardcore evangelicals who are true believers on this issue, so I’m not entirely sure that they would go along with this.

It’s so funny to me that this is the one issue he’s decided he wants to meet in the middle on (and the only issue where he seems to be presenting even a moderately normal political instinct) .
