Are a lot of these records gonna end up in a landfill? Yes! I think it's kinda lazy to take the exact same album, same graphics, same everything, and slap it on a new color of PVC and market it as a new edition. You could argue "it's okay cuz you can just pick your favorite", but it's not made-to-order, it's a waste of materials and it's targeting those with an addictive mindset about collecting.

And, y'know, with Taylor, say what you want about her shady marketing practices, but 4 copies of TTPD, each with a different bonus track and set of visuals, is far less wasteful than the same exact Poppy album no one care's about, plastered on 11 different colorways.

actually it's just as wasteful and way more scummy to use FOMO against your fanbase

Poppy for sure didn't press thousands of copies which will collect dust on the shelves and never be listened to

Honestly I wish people would stick to: 
A standard audiophile's wet dream aka black vinyl. 
A colour vinyl (and please for the love of god match the album cover you ****s)
A very ltd run Picture Disc (Probably best as an RSD exclusive) - Picture Discs have the worst sound quality.
Ltd edition 7s of the lead single. 
And near the end of the album cycle do what the Metal bands do and release a very very small amount of Collector's Boxsets. (Ghost do ****ing amazing ones for their eras).
