Just yesterday my very gay coworker and I were talking and a man made fun of our voices to his friend 2 feet away from us. And it was the easiest thing to shrug it off and keep living our lives, not even giving it a second thought. I'm gay and I love being gay. That guy's straight and he's bitter enough about our gayness that he put in the effort to be a d*ck and try to mock a stranger. His loss tbh. I pity him because imagine being that small minded. Like, you're both right imo. She shouldn't be rude but people, especially 30+ year old nerds with HP themed weddings, should be confident and secure enough in themselves that their happiness isn't injured by strangers' comments. You can't let people run your life like that. 6
Karl 3,165
Just disrespectful to nerd culture because she doesn't understand it. Also anyone over the age of 30 on here (me ) is also doing the same thing we are supposed to grow out of stanning pop stars after we leave our teens. Jase 13,043
The amount of times I've walked through Kings Cross while this has happened and I've desperately tried to keep any slurs which have been on the tip of my tongue tied down and hidden. #BeKind 2
MadArchitect 563
I support any bashing of hp so i support Queen Miriam, yes hp was my childhood but i've now move on from it as in retrospect they're bad and anything JK rowling deserves be read to filth, so people is allowed to call silly these nostagia ridden people of movies and books that are not good at all and fills the pockets of a bigot because they are. i'm obssesed with better things now, this culture as well as disney adults are extremely superficial and hedonistic for the most part. Flippy 11,536
I mean... I recently finally finished watching all of the Harry Potter movies. I think they're cute, though I am not obsessed with it. I don't think she meant harm towards the fandom, it's just her personal opinion, however a lot of responses here are 100% questionable. I am a Disney fan (not necessarily a Disney Adult since I don't breathe Disney tbh) and I'm also a doll collector. If it's not your thing, good, but people who collect stuff/are obsessed with these things are really not hurting anybody. Check yourselves, there's people dying Kim. If you’ve ever heard Miriam speak, she’s got a pretty keen sense of the absurd and is playing up the irony here for comedic effect. I really don’t think it’s that deep. Wasn’t talking about Miriam, tho I’m pretty sure her comments stem from generational misunderstanding. I’m pretty sure she’s still attached to whatever it was she was into as a kid. Her comment is unnecessarily alienating a group of people who are completely harmless people and do not deserve to be made fun of. The more we normalize that kind of the stuff, the more tolerance we build towards it, and the worse it can get. you’re making it sounds like it’s our fault for our existence and we should have to expect and just deal with people belittling us for our interests Edited March 10 by Controversiaga Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . It's not a protected characteristic, you're saying people should never be allowed to express a negative opinion on anything in case it leads to another Third Reich. it's too much imo my head is filled with broken mirrors, so many I can't look away
