You are absolutely correct. Groundbreaking was poor word choice. I think "eye-opening" would be more appropriate. What is stale to some could be life-changing to others ✨

The Gloria brand wasn’t about pushing boundaries. It was about provocation. 

Honestly so what if it was provocation? It's still nice to see it from a queer perspective.

My entire problem is you are invalidating the activism that gave Sam Smith the platform they have. Sam Smith is not an activist, they rarely speak out through their platform & actively pursued a relationship with a right wing bigot in 2020. 

I don't need to educate myself on how kink has been a part of activism. 1) I was citing examples where fetish has been used for activism by Sam's musical predecessors. Like Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Relax, George Michael's Outside and Scissor Sisters's Filthy Gorgeous & Tits on the Radio as examples. 

2) I've actively researched and presented at academic conferences on the role of **** actors & other sex workers in promoting & creating PrEP educational materials. 

3) I'm an active member of the queer fetish community. 

First and foremost, saying that I am invalidating the activism of others is gaslighting and that won't work on me. Refer to my previous reply about being provocative to see the idea. It's nice to see it from a queer perspective.

 

Honestly a lot of this is hypocrisy on this forum. Lady Gaga got so much of the same hate and this fan base spews it back to others. Ava Max "copying", Lil Nas X "wasting talent on shock value", Sam Smith "just being provacative to be provacative". Why hate other artists for stuff we constantly were hit with before?

Mate I can't be bothered with someone so superior that they start telling people to go do research on communities they've already said they are apart of. Like you got the last word in and still weren't happy. Yet claim you arent trying to force people to agree with you & support Sam. 

You can say all you want you aren't invalidating other people's groundbreaking work - but unless you accept that your language was doing so I am not going to take you seriously. 

I can accept it may not be your intention. But your language does exactly that and if you cared as much as you're performance wants people to suggest you'd recognise that your approach doesn't back up your intention.

Someone from the label must have held a gun to Sam’s head 

if she’s dropping it as a album track, the MV budget is going to be wasted anyway, I would rather scrap it altogether
