Nycboy 967
One thing I love about Gaga is her relationship with the fashion world. She premiered Bad Romance during the Alexander McQueen show at Paris fashion week in 2009. She premiered Government Hooker during the Mugler show in 2011. She used to wear couture outfits designed by the best of the best, as well as obscure designers, and spoke at length about them - as fashion was very much a part of her art. She taught me about designers like McQueen, Hedi Slimane, and others. Remember when she was creative director of companies like Polaroid? (lol). In 2008-2013 it felt like everything she did was tied to a collaboration with an artist/designer. In 2011, she took over a floor at Barney’s NY and designed all this clothing — it was such a cool time to be a fan. I honestly think her relationship with the fashion industry was just so cool. No other pop girlie could do that. She embraced the industry, and they loved her right back. It really made me see Gaga as a visionary artist, not simply a “singer.” I really felt like she was the Warhol of our generation, blending together visual art and music and fashion. I really wish Gaga would return to this position in our culture. I’m not saying I want the old “crazy” Gaga back. I get it, she’s moved on. But I do miss Gaga’s involvement in the fashion world, and I feel like it was really good for her image. For example, why can’t LG7 be premiered at a fashion show? Why is her latest collab with a migraine medicine and a video game? Why don’t we see her hanging out with fashion designer friends anymore? She has such an artistic eye, so why doesn’t she design anything? If she can’t be a global smash like Taylor, at least the right placements and appearances in the fashion world would keep her brand really cool, chic and cutting edge. I don’t think her brand needs GP exposure at this point, it needs proper positioning. Chromatica and Joanne basically had zero impact on the fashion industry. Being the face of a Valentino perfume doesn’t feel the same, it was obviously just for the money. Yes the met gala 2019 was amazing, and I loved it because for one night it recalled the time when fashion was a part of her art. TLDR: I find it sad that Gaga had such a genuine interest in fashion and I don’t really feel it anymore. I feel like embracing it again would be a great move for LG7. It doesn’t mean she has to dress crazy, she just has to make it an intentional part of who she is, and her team needs to create the right partnerships. Trigger 266
I rewatched Twelve Foot Nine recently and one of her reasons for going blander with Joanne was that she thought it was boring being glamorous all the time. She doesn't like to repeat herself. I think she does a lot still behind the scenes, though. For instance, a lot of the accessories she wears comes from up-and-coming designers, and frequently she's purchased entire collections of young designers. She's supporting the industry in another way.
Rat Boy 41,623
I think how she dressed for the superbowl national anthem and the Camp Met Gala were a good balance of Lady and Gaga. I miss her creativity in her fashion too. I think she will go back to her wild fashion roots for LG7. The thing about the big fashion looks is people get tired of it quickly which might me why she’s toned it down recently. Probably another reason she finds it boring
