Gaga for Cleopatra Role?

So it's just been confirmed that Denis Villeneuve's Cleopatra is moving forward and is currently being written by Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917 & Last Night in Soho). It should be noted that Villeneuve has directed Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, Dune and it's upcoming sequel which is coming out next month.

There have been rumours about Gaga, Angelina Jolie and Zendaya all in the running to play the Queen of Egypt for a while now but nothing has been confirmed as of yet. Gaga herself stated in Vogue's 73 questions that she would like to portray Cleopatra (scroll to 8:03 mark in the video linked below). I just wondered what are your thoughts about Gaga playing this historical figure and would you be here for it?

Personally, I would love to see her in a Villeneuve film as I think he's an incredible visionary director and I'd love a collaboration between the two. However I understand there's a lot of debate/discussion about the race and imagery of Cleopatra and who should rightfully play her so perhaps if not this role maybe one in another film, here's to dreaming!

"But right now, there are other types of movies Villeneuve wants to make, including an adaptation of Stacy Schiff’s Cleopatra, currently being written by Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917)."

you can serve it to me ancient city style...

No please no, way too much controversy about skin color, origin and race. She should be away from this project as far as she can.

I love Angelina but I think Gaga looks more like we now believe Cleopatra looked like. I’m happy with both tho.

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

Despite the whole drama about Cleopatra skin's she was defo Greek/Macedonian according to the majority of historians and Gaga's is a Mediterranean type too.

I would love to see her in a biopic about Cleopatra's reign :classy:

I'm here to take a break from university homeworks :/

I would love to see her playing such a complex character and she does look the part. However, under current climate where everything has to be politically correct, I hope they have a way to sell to people who think it is more important to be a part of a demographic instead of looking like to role and having the acting chops.

Spoiler

I might get attacked for it but I think if we sometimes forget about correctness and make more artistic decisions, a lot of movies like the recent Disney movies would be more enjoyable. I mean I have no problem with a straight man playing a gay character and vice versa as long as respect is paid in the portrayal.

I was confused, because I thought they were already making it, with Gal Gadot. But it turns out that's a whole other Cleopatra movie.

It's a trap. No one will ever be happy with a white cast ancient Egypt movie. It does not matter what 23andMe you think you have to "prove" she was white. A Hollywood movie set in Egypt about a white woman will always have a stink to it. I think Gaga knows this. Angelina, however, did black face to try and win an Oscar. So evidently, she does not. Have at it Angie!

No.  I don’t think cleopatra was of Italian decent so there will be a political uproar if Gaga is cast.

Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”

REALITY

Truthfully, it doesn't matter what Cleopatra actually was/wasn't in terms of her ethnicity. It's all about the optics. And it wouldn't look good for Gaga to play her because there will be a ton of controversy (whether valid or not) surrounding it.

no... the actress needs to closely resemble Cleopatra's ethnic origin, which was Macedonian Greek.

I mean if it's about looking close, an Italian type is pretty close of a Macedonian Greek one.

Tbf she would probably look quite like what Cleopatra actually looked like so why would that be an issue?

Her family did everything to maintain their lineage with plenty of relatives-f*cking to achieve it so she surely was Mediterranean-looking.

But Cleopatra was Macedonian from Ptolomeic dinasty. She was not dark skinned or looked Like most of egyptians.
