LateToCult 40,064
Forbes said water is wet. But low key Billboard should probably work with streaming platforms to come up with a real plan to tackle this. Maybe weighing accounts based on listening habits and rewarding songs that reach a broader audience or have more individual listeners that aren’t bot accounts. There next article is gonna be “Songs reaching platinum status is a frequent occurrence”
Lucas 24,645
Yeah and it means nothing, most of those songs debuting at #1 are absolutely not hits
Levine 22,863
Well, they are right. Debuting at #1 doesn't feel like a huge moment anymore like it used to be. And let's not talk about that with all the remixes and things like that, a #1 song is not even the most popular song of that week.
Sneaky Oliver 21,426
I think even the artists don’t think it’s a big deal anymore, remember when they used to celebrate reaching a top10 or #1?! That being said, I feel like the article with that timing and with Ariana on the cover is kinda wielding her “successful status”, I don’t think all the A lists can get #1 debuts even it if got a lot easier
InTheCloset 17,801
Despite all this lg7’s lead wont debut at no 1 Where's the spunk, Adam?
Lextyr97 19,183
With the way some of these numbers 1s are reflected, you would think Bloody Mary went #1. That **** was everywhere
Hyoha 1,610
Before streaming, radio had the job of introducing the song to the GP, who then would purchase the single or album if they liked it. Nowadays, everything is available to everyone from the get-go, and the app itself tells you when a new song by a popular artist comes out. "Purchasing" a song doesn't exist anymore. People either listen to it by choice or they don't. This is why I actually agree that if a song had more plays, it should be on top. It was the most played song that week. Now the real challenge is to see if it has legs, and for how many weeks it stays at #1, or even the top 10. That's the real measure for a hit. I’m also in agreement but I DISAGREE that 50 billion versions of the same song should count towards the charts. Those sped up, slowed down, instrumental, etc version of Yes, and? should not count. They should count as their own separate thing because it makes the whole chart disingenuous. But that’s just me
