Standing-o

It's nice to see an artist (who has a lot on their plate. Movies, Skin Care, Music...) actually deliever what fans want. Gaga's team needs to take notes....

This could be either the best or the worst song of the year. :firega:

Can't be worse than "the light is coming".

I hate it :huntyga:  I've never liked safe and never gelled so much with music made for the masses. That's why I've always liked Gaga. There has to be something daring and interesting to music. That's how we got all the old hits of the past.. the ones that are being interpolated now because they were so good they stood the test of time. Somebody try to name one popular song from 2023 that had the whole world in a chokehold that we will remember forever and will be played in karaoke bars and get everybody scream singing. Or in the past 5 years. Music has become like fast food.. for TikTok :bear:  I wish most artists were still passionate about making the best music they can. Obviously generalising a lot here.. but that's my rant over

Deffo generalising, Billie, Lana and Olivia Rodrigo have made great and memorable albums and singles the last few years in female pop anyway. The weeknd is pretty great at what he does and blinding lights is still charting. You just have to search through the tik tok songs to find the good stuff :huntyga:

I think most years there are always only a handful of hits that stand the test of time I don't think that has changed in recent years, majority of songs get forgotten about, there'll be countless songs from the 70's or 80's for example we don't know but did well in the charts, but we still only remember a handful from each year as iconic.

Edit: on topic I'm excited to hear it :ohwell:

Oh I'm not discrediting those artists. I know that Billie, Dua and Olivia could all be considered modern 'pop stars' in the traditional sense (and Taylor but she literally just never stoppedsince 2008). I wouldn't say Lana is pop.. but I guess it's very hard to know what 'pop' music is anymore when the charts and radio play don't matter so much, and artists of all different genres have big followings on streaming. Maybe the problem is that the general public don't support those kinds of songs anymore. I guess it's what trends and gets streams that defines the kind of music made now, not the other way around. Damn our TikTok poisoned brain and lack of attention span :bear:

I might have my blinders on, being a kid of the 90's, teen of the 2000's, and early 20's in the 2010's. It could just be that I don't step outside my favourite artists enough. It could just be that my mind equates radio with pop now when it isn't. Maybe it's that when a song was popular before you would hear it played everywhere to death, but that doesn't happen anymore even when a song is popular. Maybe my music taste is just too nice to find any of the current songs to be long-time classics

Then again as I talk about it I think about songs like Dua Lipa Dance The Night Away, Miley's Flowers and Blinding Lights as you said. So lets check back in 10 years and see if we can go to a bar and have the whole place get excited when one of these songs comes on..

Someone else chime in I don't know how to feel

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
