Canadian Province Plans To Defy Federal Law... "Says It's Unfortunate"

The Premier of Saskatchwean plans to not pay the levi on Carbon tax for natural gas because he is upset that the temporary break on heating tax is only being applied to heating oil which mostly benefits Atlantic Provinces which use it more.

 

Premier Scott Moe says it is unfortunate to defy Federal Law but that it is nevessairy to stand up for people in his Province

How is it that Provinces keep trying to defy the Federal Government and nothing ever happens? This Government has no backbone to be tough when necessairy

The Atlantic Provinces have to electrify their heating more quickly to meet emissions targets which the government is pushing for. This means the Atlantic Provinces will face a disporportionate cost to change their system faster (a system thats already more expensive to begin with) and its also the poorest part of the Country

 

Politicians can never be reasonable. Its always about playing politics and I have no respect for it

U know the Federal Government is gonna do absolutely nothing. This is not the first time a Province tried to defy rules it didnt agree with and Trudeau and his government barely gave a slap in the wrist

I mentioned something of this effect before, but it feels like Romania and Moldova act more like an unified country than the Canadian provinces, even though on paper they're not.

Countries like US and Canada are too large to be highly centralized. 

 

But then Russia seems to be pretty centralized so i dunno. I guess strong dictatorship makes it possible.

 

I dunno about Romania but US/Canada started as forms of confederations. Autonomous regions joined to make a Nation. Upon joining from the beggining they were always given strong autonomy

 

But that autonomy has limits within the Nation, and some jurisdictions sometimes seem to struggle to remember that

I also think size and authoritan tendecies are the key factor (Russia itself was not supposed to be as centralized as it's in practice, yet it became very unified, especially following the Checen Wars; China too is very centralized despite its size).

Looking at Romania's case, I don't think the history/ origins of said countries' emergence are neccesarily significant. Because Romania was born through the merging of Moldova and Wallachia (they both had extended autonomy during the transition period, were supposed to keep 2 capitals etc).

is he dumb?! we are a COUNTRY. Of course the provinces can compete but our resources and wealth are constantly allocated between provinces. A MESS
