What kind of gay representation in film/TV do you want to see in 2024?

I want to see gay anger, gay vengeance, gay rage. Queer class warfare. Drag queens beating the hell out of fascists, racists, transphobes, billionaires, and all class traitors. Less checkbox representation and more queer folks standing up for themselves against the people and systems that want us dead.

Lesbian Christmas movies. We need more than just Kristen Stewart's Happiest Season.

Gay/queer/diverse characters who are treated as just regular people in the world, written as fully fleshed out real complex characters, and no stereotypes. No gay torture p*rn. No storylines about how hard it is to be gay. it's true but we have plenty of gay struggle, and also plenty of gay 'I accept myself!' I want gay regular life.  A whole season of a show or a movie where being gay is not even brought up at all and they just live as normally as straight people

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

A Fried Egg

Gay characters who aren’t conventionally attractive but also not the butt of jokes.

And enough with gays finding acceptance storylines, there is more to life beyond that. Show what happens after.

Gays in media are either hypersexual or hyperfeminine. We need the boring in-betweens too as they make up the majority of gays in real life. Write characters who are lovable and relatable.

You said it better than me but yes exactly this. Gay characters written as REGULAR people in every way. Storylines that don't focus on the fact they are gay. We have achieved acceptance in mainstream media now, which is absolutely amazing! But we are ready to take a step past that now and have gay characters that are normal people. Like you said, an accurate representation of real life

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

May December?

Not...really what I had in mind no. I'm talking about films that explicitly center on lesbian characters and lesbian love in the same way things like Heartstopper and such have done for gay characters. There is some queerness that exists on the periphery of the story, but it's nothing more than subtext that's given no room within the narrative to be plot important. The film centers around a heterosexual relationship as a core plot device, so not really hitting the mark I'm talking about.

This soooo much! I was very very disappointed in "Fellow Travelers" for this reason. It was just the same gay suffering cliché regurgitated for the 1000th time in an exaggerated way and there is absolutely no need for that anymore.

Anything that is not related to AIDS, the AIDS crises or any sad ending where somebody dies of AIDS or alone or whatever.

I have all my respect for the AIDS crises and victims of abuse all over the world and it's a tragic thing in our world but damn ... I don't wanna see that anymore. I feel like every american movie or series about gay people is like that.

I'll watch more spanish TV.

Regular joe gay. Practically speaking, my life as one of the most basically boring, so-average-looking-not-even-Anderson-Cooper-would-want-to-court-me, 150 cm-in-height, gay male..

more diversity in LGBT characters, not just hunky hot guys and alternative queer characters with extravagant fashion sense. I'd like to see some average gay people.... The TV show Looking had some realistic average gay character.
