This is interesting to say the least. It will go to the US Supreme Court, which is weighted in Trump's favour in terms of the political persuasion of the nine people who make up that court. However, they haven't always just obediently danced to Trump's tune, and I believe I'm right in saying that some of the wealthy people who fund the GOP want rid of Trump at this point (presumably because they think he has gone too crazy and is unelectable). I just wonder. Gonna be interesting.

A similar case was appealed to SCOTUS and they declined to hear it. They could be deciding to leave it to the states, but we’ll see. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-supreme-court-rebuffs-long-shot-candidates-bid-disqualify-trump-2024-2023-10-02/

Too bad it’s only Colorado.

Hopefully more are to come. Tbh if even one swing state bars him, it’s ballgame for Trump.

Nothing will change and this will be reversed and things like this will just motivate his fans even more to vote for him.

It's not the least bit arbitrary. I don't know how you can even say that.

What Colorado has decided is extremely damaging to America's reputation of being a democracy and shades the election process already now without even having begun yet. This is likely going to the highest Supreme Court and will create more chaos and eroding trust into institutions. From now on, when Biden visits or speaks of other less democratic countries and gives a lecture they might say "but you behave the same, what a hypocrisy" ...

I’m sorry, being banned from holding future office on the basis of having tried to overthrow the gov’t as a remedy provided by the literal Constitution is an “arbitrary justification?” Be so fckn serious right now

Apparently a sitting president trying to use presidential immunity as blanket protection to overthrow the government isn’t a big deal lmao

that's true (Trump already has planned to discredit it without waiting for things to happen first :toofunny: ) but it will have an impact on undecided voters and will have a controversial signal to the rest of the world "look, they exclude candidates in America. And now they tell us we aren't a democracy. They are the same" - could African or Asian presidents say to justify things in their countries or react to the West's criticism.

Yeah, and if they framed it like that, they’d be lying.

It doesn't matter how the right will react to this; they call for a civil war everytime a conservative gets tripped by a pebble. The 14th amendment states this is the course of action to take. It is a correct decision that will most likely get thrown out by a compromised SCOTUS, but I'm glad to see a glimmer of actual justice.

Also, note how many of the ones begging the Supreme Court to overturn this were the same ones screeching "states rights" when it comes to reproductive care. It's constant hypocrisy. It's playing monopoly with a group of 4 year olds.

This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss.

My parade is being rained on from all sides.

I also wasn't aware that the Colorado Supreme Court is 100% Democrat-appointed, and even they only voted 4-3.

Much as I loathe Trump, I have to admit as well that I'm unsure about this ruling myself. I have no legal training in my own country, let alone the US, but it seems to me that they are disqualifying him on the basis of his having engaged in behaviour which amounted to the comnitting of a crime, but how can you be deemed to be guilty of a crime without having been tried and convicted for it ?

obviously, the best news of the week. it's the judgement on another much more cowardly judgement: that "public office" did not include the office of president of the country. despite the conservative majority of the supreme court, i don't see how to get around the constitution without being honest about the anti-democratic facts commanded by this scumbag: attempting to falsify results, giving subtle or explicit comfort to a rebellion based on lies, etc . . etc. the only thing I believe the supreme may get into controversy over is the fact that there are parallel trials that will determine the veracity of the finding that Trump was involved in Insurrection. as they are yet to begin and the end is not in sight of the 2024 election, I believe the candidate is protected in the presumption of Innocence, even though everyone knows he is the piece of **** he is.

He’ll still end up becoming president again.

He will sadly. I was reading this article earlier, and even leftists who voted for Biden in 2020 say that they'll vote for Trump this time to "punish Biden for Gaza war". Some people really have brain damage.

"Evan Crochet, a 30-year-old video producer in Cary, N.C., who supported Senator Bernie Sanders [...] If pushed to choose, he’d reluctantly opt for Mr. Trump, he said, though he’s leaning toward Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist running as an independent. He said he wanted Mr. Biden to be punished."

For me, I've made my peace with this and I don't care anymore who's gonna win. It's people who think Trump is "the lesser evil" are the ones who'll feel the consequences of their choice much more harshly than I ever will.
