No, but seriously, this is only gonna get worse if certain groups continue pushing for how and what parts of history are taught in schools. The teaching of slavery history in the US is already being modified, limited and restricted.

Polls focusing in specifically on young people are always going to produce results that aren’t reflective of fully developed thoughts and feelings.

This happens for various reasons whether it be due to the influence of social media with a lack of media literacy skills to see beyond false information, reactionary political stances influenced by a surface level engagement with world events, or something as simple as very few young people have all of their thoughts and feelings ironed out and they change sometimes day by day.

We’re not looking at an upcoming wave of people who believe the Holocaust was fake or any other scary things these polls often ask about. What we’re looking at is a group of young people who’re caught in a vacuum of conflicting information both true and untrue that they haven’t properly formed a stance on yet. 

Polls only capture one moment in time, they don’t reflect how the polled individuals and their beliefs change and how quickly that can happen.

Getting scared over this is understandable, but ultimately rather pointless. This has far more to do with current social commentary than it does what the young people polled actually will believe for the rest of their lives.

I will also reiterate this point: polls aren’t nearly as reliable as they used to be because their methodology is inherently flawed in the face of cultural changes. This goes for all polls whether it be young, old, politically based, or not. The polling system used today is restrictive and some I’d go so far as to say almost antique. The more time passes, the more we see that these polls don’t accurately reflect the truth the way they maybe once did.

How is that even possible? The holocaust came up multiple times during history class throughout multiple grades here in California. Is it just entirely left out of the curriculum in some states?

I mean I don't get it. I don't remember myself or any of my friends questioning basic history when I was 18.

I feel like newer generations are growing up in a much more serious misinformation environement. And I don't know how it can be fixed.

I agree and X isn't better. I remember watching a Netflix show many years ago and it warned about how social media algorithms are a big problem in the way they reinforce echo chambers and give people more of what they like to see. It's all becoming a reality now.

The issue which may contribute to this is that some people wrongly believe some entities are inherently opressors and some are inherently opressed. History shows us the roles can be reserved, but to some it's unfathomable that a state which is an opressor in 2023 had its people opressed in the past.
