Plus the situation in Ukraine was a LOT less divisive than what's happening between Israel and Palestine today. Ukraine did not break the ceasefire, kidnap Russian children or go into Russia to murder civilians. It was more of a shock that they were attacked for pretty much no reason. Whereas the situation with Israel is more divisive, considering Hamas broke the ceasefire (does not justify Israel's excessive response but it's ridiculous to compare it to Ukraine).

So regardless of how stubborn people are about this, the situation in Israel and Palestine is very complex and most people sympathize with both sides, hence why it's perceived as controversial to try to pick a side. I understand why TIME did not do it. Whereas for Ukraine, 90%+ of the public pretty much sided with Ukraine.

If they chose Gazans, people would be like "what about the hostages, children and women who were kidnapped, raped etc..". If they chose the victims of October 7th, people would be like "what about Gazans".

I'm ambivalent on Taylor, but I understand why she received this cover/award. She's the biggest artist around (in the United States) since Michael Jackson or the Beatles.

I did read the interview though, and kind of....cringed a bit? Taylor is wildly successful, and re-hashing the Kanye mess seemed like a bad choice when the public has long moved on.

GAG, the training that went into the eras tour is very interesting to me. I would also love to know what that og setlist sounded like as I can assume some things got moved around

It has become abundantly clear that Taylor's family is far more involved in her career than I ever appreciated and it is crazy that they still are. Oh to be a fly on the wall.

Big Machine just seems like hell (which is insane cause she really portrayed them to be the best) and she tried to leave so nicely but that man is a MENACE as we continue to learn

This is very interesting that this is her view of rep as it lines up with her view of feminism and also scares me for rep vault because I simply cannot do the man (reputation's version).

overall, such an interesting interview, I would like to have seen perhaps more of a reflection of her influence within the wider world and even her position as the person of year however I know enough that she was literally never going to touch that with a 10 foot pole. Hell, even if Elvis' biggest achievement was ripping off black artists before him even he contributed a hell of a lot more to the culture and arts than Taylor by being the quintessential rockstar.

Taylor's only achievement, and I do mean ONLY achievement, is making money. She sells. She has dollar signs next to her name.

And I still don't understand the praise she gets for songwriting when I have yet to see a lyric that didn't sound like a cringe middle schooler wrote it. Even when she gets artsy with metaphors it comes off as try-hard and shallow. She does nothing better than any other artist.

You want self affirmation? Gaga's songs blow her out of the water.

You want a love song? There's literally millions that are better written than any product of Taylor's pen.

Heartbreak or breakup songs? See love songs.

You want vocals? I'll give you a hundred singers off the top of my head that could blow her away.

I genuinely do not understand how she is so popular. She deadass is to music what the Kardashians were/are to TV and it irritates the hell out of me

There are thousands of artists out there that make better music, are better entertainers, and they/their fans don't consider having a 9-figure net worth as "artistic success".
