We been knew Ridley have lost his touch. He was usually on and off in quality, but have been steadily bad as of late.

He can't even make a good Alien movies anymore. While Prometheous is promising, but Covenant that follows it is embarrassingly bad :franminervini:

If not for Gaga, I don't think us as fanbase would even check HoG at the cinemas and be a litte bit respectful of it  :icant:

House of Gucci the film didn’t flop at the Oscars, it wasn’t really an Oscar film. Aside from Gagas snub, its makeup and hairstyling nom is sufficient.

Generally, acting nominations in the Best Actress and Best Actor categories are not likely if the film doesn't overall get a few other major nominations as well, the exceptions are long overdue nominations for older industry legends. Even then, they are nominated for movies that get better reviews that Gucci did.

The movie was mediocre or worse and the other award shows were already very generous to Gaga with so many nominations.

No actress nominated in 2021 was accompanied by films with major nominations, other than Olivia Coleman and The Lost Daughter got a screenplay nomination.

It’s not uncommon for actors or actresses to be the sole nomination. There’s dozens of examples from the last decade.

Gaga was nominated in every precursor before the Oscars, and she was considered a shoo-in before nominations were announced.

It was a genuine surprise that her name wasn’t called on nomination morning. Sometimes when an actor is all but guaranteed, voters will choose a dark horse to give them a bump, resulting in a snub.

A snub isn’t a bad thing. It’s better for complaints about missing the nom, than complaints about being nominated.

House of Gucci the film didn’t flop at the Oscars, it wasn’t really an Oscar film. Aside from Gagas snub, its makeup and hairstyling nom is sufficient.

There were even those in the industry who were surprised at her not making the cut, which is a good sign that it truly was considered a snub as it wasn't just biased fans saying it. The director of massive Oscar winner, The Power Of The Dog even said she was surprised that she missed out. If a director of a heavily awarded film says someone from another film deserved an acting nomination, that is major praise. The academy could sit up and take notice of how much she's being lauded in the industry. And it all helps form a potential winner's arc in the future. After losing her first ever nomination and getting snubbed on her next big role, the chances of her scooping a nomination for her next big role is very likely and a win may be seen as earned and maybe even overdue.

The acting nominations, especially in the female acting category, has been heavily focused on films where the acting was considered the only good part of it. Glenn Close got nominated for The Wife and that was the only nomination that film had (she also won a lot of awards from other award shows where once again, she was the film's sole nominee). Penelope Cruz got that surprising nom for Parallel Mothers even though the film didn't get any other nominations and she had barely got nominated for this role across other awards shows (in fact, many Gaga fans believe she 'took' the nom spot that was meant for Gaga as Gaga had been a bigger award show favourite yet was bizarrely snubbed here). And just this year, Andrea Riseborough got nominated for To Leslie which was the film's sole nomination and it was actually considered wild that she got this nom considering that the film only made $400k worldwide and there was actually an investigation carried out to see if there was a violation of the academy's policies because the director and his wife directly lobbied voters to get that nomination (the nomination still stood at the end of the day, but it was a bit of a scandal).

Point is, every award is its own thing and it can be picked up on that a movie, no matter how bad it is, can still do one thing right and it will get nominated accordingly. So, considering her performance was widely praised at the best part of the film, Gaga had every chance of getting nominated no matter how bad everyone considered the rest of it to be.
