SAG-AFTRA Director Details Actors Can Promote So Long There's Interim Agreement

SAG-AFTRA Chief Negotiator and National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland is very happy with Taylor Swift.

We, (Deadline), spoke with Crabtree-Ireland today at New York Comic-Con where he took the stage for a panel about AI.

What’s your take on the whole Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour phenomenon at the box office this weekend? I know the film has a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement, but the film’s success comes at a time when actors can’t promote, and we’re clearly seeing the impact of that at the box office.

Actors can promote any project that has an interim agreement. There are projects that have had premieres, that have been promoted using our members where there are interim agreements. The success of the Eras Tour movie is a testament to the importance of creative talent in not only creating projects but promoting projects. I’m thrilled that it has been so successful. Taylor Swift is a member of SAG-AFTRA. She has done a lot to help other artists in the industry. I hope that the studios are paying attention because it is important sign of creative partners who have talent and provide a fair deal where we can get the industry back to work.

Someone tell Bobby to get interim agreement STAT!  :icant:

REALITY

I thought we've known this. I mean, there are movies currently being filmed and worked on that have interim agreements from SAG, so I would assume that that also covers promotion too.

I thought Gaga was not able to release the Chromatica Ball Film due to the soundtrack songs, but if she can draft an interim agreement, this means they are just being plain lazy

I thought it was clear from the first day haha.. I honestly don't know why it's so hard for them to get her pop concert films out (because you see how the jazz ones haven't had a single issue).

It sucks how everything is based on speculation and there's not even rumors we can get (I mean, this film has no secrets, the tour already happened so what's the deal about info leaking anyway?)

I'm pretty sure she has to have an agreement with the studios to which the soundtrack movies belong. This isn't a her and SAG-AFTRA thing. This is between SAG-AFTRA and the rights holders.

I feel like a lot people in this community will meltdown a lot when the strike will be over and realizing there's no plan to release the CBT anymore

Exactly

and here’s a thought:

MAYBE, just MAYBE, Gaga sabotaged herself a bit? I mean… we know she can be very hard on herself and is kind of a “perfectionist”.

maybe when they were working on it and Beyonce’s tour started (and we KNOW Gaga liked the album so she probably found the tour amazing as well), she just statted to have second thoughts?

maybe she thought well… we wanted to win an Emmy with this tour film, but seeing Beyoncé’s tour and the possibility that she’ll release a film herself, maybe that will overshadow our film?  And maybe she thought well damn, bey’s tour is such a spectacle, Taylor’s tour is such a spectacle, maybe ppl won’t be that interested in the CBT anymore

Pls dont attack me im just saying it’s a POSSIBILITY bcs she’s human after all

and that together with the strike and probably a dozen other factors we dont know about, they just dropped the rpoject

TCB will be out in one of the streaming services, the same services are one of the biggest reasons for this strike.

Releasing the movie would put everyone who worked on it under the current agreement and not the new one with better conditions

It’s not laziness, it’s to do what is right.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Yeah they might talk about those alleged soundtracks, but the issues is THE STREAMING SERVICE release. That’s the issue. Also I don’t think it’s gonna be released(as several users have said, it’s not a proper film if you just film ONE date). I feel like the movie isn’t that good (in Gaga’s eyes, maybe) that’s why they didn’t release it last year. They know it’s way past its time, so idk if they’ll ever release it. If it’s released:good, but at this point I wouldn’t even be mad if it’s not lol
