Isn't sex biological and objective, ie something you can not change? A transwoman will still have the sex male. Isn't gender socially constructed and subjective? Can someone explain to me why what he said is so controversial?

I just mean the people that you see floating around online saying kids can choose wether they are a boy or a girl, and some people would raise children "genderneutral" with this in mind. He is talking about what is being taught in school after all.

There's a difference between your biological sex and your gender identity though. Gender identity is how you identify yourself, and some people feel like they fall "in between" male and female. It's not a new idea. Actually the idea of genderfluid or genderqueer people is something that has been going on for centuries. It's just that through religion and extreme politicization, people want to believe it's this new scary thing that is "harmful" to children.

Yeah, as a liberal, i wish other liberals would be a bit more reasonable sometimes. We don't always need to take stuff to the extremes. Plus we all know that a lot of people think of gender as a trend nowadays.

I do believe in non binarism,i may be non binary myself, but i wouldn't ask anyone to use my preferred pronouns. It's just unnecessary. I look like a guy so people are gonna use male pronouns and I'm ok with it. The only person who needs to know that I'm non binary is me

I kinda get this. I have trans family members and I’ve seen how gender dysphoria is a real biological/ mental condition that drastically affects their lives. My parents are both open minded so it’s never been an issue.

People who are constantly flip flopping between genders whenever they feel like it just want special treatment and deserve to be called out. These people give trans a bad rep. If you can’t even take your own gender seriously, don’t expect others to.

Jesus they really are grasping at the worst humans in the UK to win this election because they know they are royally f****d after 15 years of bad decisions and corruption. How have they gone from being centre right and pretty tolerant overall under Cameron to this Americanised right wing mess.. the UK public are generally very tolerant of LGBTQ, its not gonna win them votes like in the US, maybe if they stuck with the immigrant rhetoric that might work considering how many elderly xenophobes we have though..

once again, the general public is actually very tolerant of the LGBTQ+ community in the US and the politicians that traffic in this rhetoric are generally very unpopular.

at the last election the country voted conservative, but back then the transgender debate was barely part of mainstream british politics. it wasn't until the culture warriors crawled out of the woodwork last year that this even became a widely debated topic.

the fact that barely 25% of the country plans to vote conservative at the next election says everything. the absolute majority of the country doesn't agree with any of the culture war, climate denial stuff they've been pushing, and they're doing it all because they're a bunch of incompetent, extremist nutjobs who're trying their best to vomit out any policy they can to try to cling to power.
