What a complete and utter sh*t show

As bad as McCarthy is, I think the right can’t do better (well they can't agree on better). This is likely to f*ck up things in November for the next shut-down. The worst thing is that I've lost trust in republican voters to actually vote for qualified representatives. The party is headed towards more Gaetz, MTG, & Boebert.

I will continue to vote in every election, but jfc this is getting tough. Now I've got to try and convince even more of my lazy friends and family to vote. Republicans are f*cking exhausting.

I don’t think they have the votes for someone more extreme. There’s 30 Republicans in districts Biden won.

They were only able to vote him out because dems announced they weren't going to help save him. It took more than 10 times, a physical altercation, and bribes to vote him there in the first place. They don't have a ton of power. Dems made it clear they were going to leave it up to Republicans to figure their stuff out so the maga-faction used that to their advantage.

As awful as a government shutdown would be for so many, the only silver lining is it wouldn’t be possible for Republicans to blame it on Biden. Gaetz himself said that loudly and clearly. If there is a shut down that will cause major damage to Republicans come election time. They’re handing Biden a campaign talking point on a silver platter.

Yes and no. While he did finally get an extension crossed with dem support, he still broke the promises he made to them previously which is why they ultimately decided they wouldnt help him. They offered their support for his bipartisan cooperation and he turned it down because he was busy trying to play all three sides (extreme right, average Republicans and the Dems) without following through on any of them.

This will likely backfire on democrats. The new speaker is probably gonna be more MAGA, harsher on social spending, immigration and anti-Ukraine. Jim Jordan already announced his candidacy and he'll probably win.

McCarthy was malleable, able to work with Biden/democrats. The next speaker will probably not be.

Honestly, I'm sick and tired of democrats empowering/elevating MAGA republicans just so that they can watch the chaos from the sidelines. They had no business supporting a motion put forth by one of the most unhinged members of Congress. What they've done now, is that turned Matt Gaetz into a kingmaker. You win short term political victory, but long term it's not worth it. We won't be laughing anymore in 2024, if republicans win all branches of goverment and the likes of Matt Gaetz control the party.
