Even ppl who do buy a house end up renting out part of their house otherwise they cant afford their mortgage

 

Funny enough, most landlords here are not rich huge investors... its everyday ppl trying to pay their own mortgage abd struggling themselves

 

Tho some landlords own extra homes as an investment property, most ppl who have a landlord normally have their landlord live in the same house. Usually in a different floor of the house... at least in the suburbs with individual homes thats common, in cities like Toronto with buildings it may be different

 

Everyone is struggling and its rediculous. We need to either lower immigration targets or get our act togethet immediately on housing comstruction

 

Canada has long had an identity tied to immigration as part of pur culture but we need to admit we can not sustain these targets anymore especially since they been raised so much to offset boomer retirees

I think it’s a bit dangerous to start blaming immigrants for our housing situation.  Our country benefits from the mix of cultures we get coming to live here.  There are a lot of factors to consider with respect to housing. Corporations who try to avoid paying taxes, developers who are aligned with certain politicians to allow them to develop and protect their business interests and bottom line at the expense of affordable housing. We should be going after the corporations and the politicians who are creating the problem, not immigrants!

Real estate should never have become an investment comodity. Its a place for ppl to live and should of stayed as such

Im not blaming immigrants as the root cause...

 

However, theres no denying that the quotas in recent years have been very high, and its a bad combination when you have poor policies with regards to housing

 

To summurize in a nutshell... Im not opposed to very high immigration rates overall in general or in principal... im opposed to high immigration rates during a severe housing crisis while simultaneously the government hasnt figured out how to solve that issue to get more supply built

 

As u said, the housing crisis is multi factoral... but regardless of who and what is at fault, adding almost 3% population annually, a rate not seen in nearly a century, and not being seen in any other developed nation by even a remote margin, is not surprising to be a factor to significantly worsen the situation

 

Im cool with adding 500,000 or even 1M ppl a year. But first lets have a plan to house everyone BEFORE u let that many ppl in and decide u have a crisis to solve later. It makes no sense
